GOOD NEWS FOR GOD’S MEN

September 3, 2017

Let us be the BEST we have ever been as 2017 mighty men!

HIS WORD for TODAY

” If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.!”  (2 Chronicles 7.14)

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

What is the name of the Lord?  Yes, we can create a list of many names beginning with YHWH, the “I AM,” which was revealed to Moses and through Moses to the people of Israel and to Egypt- the captive and the captors.  A part of that list would include those revealing the character and nature of God such as El Shaddai, God Almighty, and El Elyon, God Most High and Jehovah Jireh, Lord who provides.  We could also include positional descriptor names such as Immanuel, God who is with us, and consequential names such as Yeshua, God who saves.  It can be an extensive list or a short list, it matters not because just as the Good Shepherd knows each of us by name so He is known by us with a name.  And God who is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, has revealed Himself through Jesus as the Christ.  And at His name every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. (Philippians 2.10)

Are you seeing God’s revelation and promise in today’s Word- “If My people, who are called by My Name”?  It is not only the name which is given to us by a God who adopts us out of the dwelling place of sin and gives us His Name so that we might dwell with Him in His House.  It is also the person, My Name, the Holy Trinity which calls us to be His people.  God has shown us the who and the what of our existence as it was, as it is and as it will be.  How valuable is it for God’s people to understand the prophecy of 2 Chronicles which is revealed in the Gospels and is fulfilled in Revelation.  When God breathed life into us so that we are born into the world we are a people called into life by His Name- the power of creation.  But, because of Adam and Eve’s shortcoming we did not humble ourselves as a people and fell into the abode of sin.  When God breathed new life into us He made it possible for us to be reborn in spirit and in truth.  The consequences can still be the same as for Adam and Eve if we refuse to humble ourselves and thus remain in the abode of sin.  But for those who are called by His Name, who will humble themselves and repent, who will cry out in earnest and solemn prayer there is salvation, restoration, reconciliation and eternal life on earth as it will be and already is in heaven.

Mighty men of God, be called by His Name- Jahweh, God our Father; Yeshua, Christ- God of our salvation; and Holy Spirit.  Humble yourselves before all the world so that those in our world, our sphere of influence, can be saved and be called by His Name as well.

HIS TRUTH be seen in the mighty men of 2015!

HIS WORD for Today:

John 14.5-8

“Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we don’t know where You are going, so how can we know the way?’ Jesus answered, ‘I AM the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you really know Me, you will know My Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him.’

Philip said, ‘Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.'”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

And just when you thought you had a handle on the “truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help us God” then the Holy Spirit accepts your level of comfort and puts another opportunity to grow in front of you. That is the joy of seeking the truth and allowing the truth to dwell in your heart, soul and mind! Yes, as mighty men of God, disciples of Christ, we do not want to settle for simple truths. Simple truths are the enticements of the world. Simple truths answer only the momentary question and satisfies the temporary and short-term needs in our lives which are usually never really good for us in the long-term picture. No, we should not settle for simple truths but desire to go deeper and deeper into the truth and discover the wealth of knowledge and wisdom and opportunity available to those who seek it.

That means for me that I will be listening to what the Holy Spirit is sharing with me and inviting me to pursue further and share with those who have ‘an ear to hear…and a desire to listen to listen’ in this reading of HIS WORD for ‘today.’ Let me quickly give the impetus of this journey into His word. It came from worship today and the lesson which the Holy Spirit declared in our hearing. It was about the name of God and our name for Him and for ourselves. What is in a name? There is much in the name of any person or place. Each name stands for something and there are those times when other names are attached as well which usually stand for someone’s judgment on the person, place or thing. Think about it. Isn’t that the truth? You have a given name; one that was given to you at birth which represents your place within a family. It speaks of history, past or present leading toward the future. You fall in a line of understanding between a man and a woman who made it possible for you to be born in this world. But, as you go through the years of your lives by some characteristic in your life or life’s experience you get another name. Some people call this your nickname. That word may have more truth in it that we desire and a falsehood. Consider the word itself as I am about to present it to you- nick name. Mighty men shave and sometimes they nick themselves. They cut into their flesh and draw blood. No matter how it is treated there is a sting to it. How many nicknames sting? How many represent more of a negative about who we are or how we are perceived by others than a positive? How many speak of a wound or deficit or the attempt to demean or control our character. It doesn’t really represent the truth about who we are.

So what is in a name, our name, as mighty men of God? What is in our name as mighty men of God is the truth about who we are and who we are to become. That truth begins with the presence of God in our lives. We already know the difference between “in us” and “with us.” (If not, then go back to these musing from the first day of this year and read forward. If you have been following, then you might want to go back and reread to capture the flow of discovery the Holy Spirit is offering.) But, it is not the presence of God in our lives that I want to introduce to you as it was introduced to me at this time. It is the God who is present in our lives that I know we must put our focus on and set as a priority focal point from which we can see truthfully everything else in and around our lives. It is the revelation of God to Moses and thus to the nation becoming Israel that speaks to us so mightily. Jesus revels, yes I said revels though I know it is also reveals that I am talking about, in the name of God which is His name as well. He speaks it to the disciples during that final meal He would share with them before turning His world and everyone else’s world upside down by surrendering to the Temple officials, the Roman authority, Death and ultimately to God for our sake. He says to them “I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life.” It is not a scripture that is unfamiliar to us. We have read it, heard it and quoted it often. But, did you embrace it as the revelatory NAME of Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God and our personal Lord and Savior? If not, then let me introduce you to Jesus anew and to the next several days of studying, sharing and becoming even more about becoming mighty men of God.

“Hello, mighty man. I would like for you to meet my very good friend- I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life. You really want to get to know Him and ask Him to become your very best friend. He alone can show you the truth about who you have been, who you are, who you will become and who you will be. Not only that, He is the only way you can discover the truth about living with God forever.” Interested? Me, too. I can’t wait to see where this is going to lead us and what it will show us about the truth that is in us.

“Let HIS TRUTH be seen in the mighty men of 2015.”

February 8, 2013

Love one another deeply from the heart of Jesus in 2013!

Psalm 23.3b

“The Lord, the Good Shepherd, guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

In the world, the shepherd was not the owner of the sheep but the caretaker. The shepherd was the hired hand given the duty, responsibility and opportunity to watch over and safeguard a flock of sheep. The successful shepherd was the one who took ownership of his flock even though he did not own it. He invested his very life, put it on the line 24/7, because he wanted to be a good shepherd. Being a shepherd was his livelihood; it was how he provided for himself and his fleshly flock. His reputation was on the line and any future hires or benefits were dependent on how well he managed those who were entrusted into his care. How did the owner know if the shepherd was being successful? How many sheep were lost? And if one was lost, did the shepherd go and find it and bring it back dead or alive in order to give an accurate and appropriate accounting? Did the sheep respond to his word and voice? Did he know them individually and have names for them that were distinctive? The owner of the sheep knew a good shepherd.

God has done the very same as the good shepherd. He has invested His name into the work He set out to do. He is answerable to Himself ultimately but His Name, His Word, is given before all the world- seen and unseen. He has provided us with one of His own- Jesus, to be a lamb of God led to slaughter. But, He was accountable for Him and brought Him out of the grave and the pit to sit at His right hand and share in His glory. Even more than that, He calls each mighty man of God by name that is his distinctively and seeks us out by His Holy Spirit so that if we become lost, we shall be found. His leadership is His namesake, His reputation, His promise, His covenant, His life and it is meant for our welfare because we bear the name of God on us and in us before all the world.

The question is for all mighty men of God- are you a good shepherd? He has shown you the way, O man, what is good. Is it not to act justly, show mercy and walk humbly with Him? Whether a sheep or a shepherd, the truth remains the same. You are being led and leading in the paths of righteousness because you have become God’s namesake!

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Revelation 19. 12b, 13b, 16

“He has a name written on Him that no one knows but He Himself.”
“…and His name is “the Word of God.”
“On His robe and on His thigh He has this name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Let there be no mistake as to whom our Savior is who will ride in like a knight on a great white horse leading an army sitting upon white horses themselves. It will be a glorious and brilliant spectacle to behold as He who is for us rides out to confront those who are against us. His name is “the Word of God- Logos,” “King of Kings and Lord of Lords,” and most importantly He will be known by a name as yet revealed to all the heavens and the earth. I can’t help but wander back to Mars Hill as Paul was teaching the gospel of Christ to those who had gathered calling themselves wise men. There he lifted up the names of Jesus from the writings of the Jewish prophets to the very shared witness of the disciples of Christ. And yet, in that particular place there was an empty statuary which Paul seized upon and filled it with the name of the “unknown God.” Unknown as yet to them but known quite implicitly to Paul as Almighty God. These wise men had searched the written records and teachings of the ages and knew there was more to life than met the eye. Little did they know what they were about to see.

The same can be said for this world. In a day of modern warfare with technology pressing the manufacturing of weapons and armament previously only imagined in science fiction and comic books and now in video games and war rooms, the scriptural witness speaks of a mighty army mounted on horses, dressed in white linen riding out of the heavenly dimension to overtake, conquer and eliminate the forces of evil and its army. It is nearly unimaginable that such a sight could be seen. What chance exists for victory in this vision of horse against machine, robe against armor? Every chance in the world when the name of the army and its commander is “the Word of God.” Such a vision of victory exists and cannot be defeated. Man can seek to create the greatest weapons and armor known in his history yet there are so many battles he cannot win. The battle against sin lies at the heart of every battle man must face. That is why it will take more than a man to lead these people to victory. It will take the King of Kings and Lord of Lords who bears a name that will in the end be revealed fulfilling all the hopes and needs of His people. I look forward to knowing that name but until then, the victory is won in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and that is enough for me.

ABIDING IN HIS PRESENCE THROUGH PRAYER:

Pour out your blessing on these mighty men as they march humbly under the banner of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords sharing faith, hope and love with all the captives who have been set free, especially with those who do not know yet the name nor the taste of that triumph given to them by “the Word of God.” AMEN.
