Let us be the BEST we have ever been as 2017 mighty men!

HIS WORD for TODAY

1 John 1.7

“But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

Just as God is love so God, too, is in the light. Not only is God in the light and He is the light and the light is in Him. So, John makes his declaration to the fellowship of believers that they must also endeavor to be and remain in the light. Why? Because it is the light of God which radiates healing to our body, mind and spirit. Yes, by the grace of God which raised Jesus from the dead and covers us with righteousness we are radiated to be purified of the disease which sin infects our lives. That disease manifests itself in discord, destruction, demonization and demoralization. Ultimately, it manifests itself in death- the death that separates us totally from the saving grace of God.

As mighty men of God, we would want the light of God which is experienced best by being in right relationship with Jesus as our Christ. If we are in the light of God’s mercy and grace then we become vehicles of healing as well reaching out to touch the world around us. How can we know the light is in us? I believe it comes when the Word of God is known by us in a recognized revelation. By recognized revelation I mean when we actually find the truth of the Word coming alive- our mind receives clarity, our body receives power, our heart receives depth and our spirit receives a greater nearness to God. The more we are in the light the more the light is in us and the more we are like Jesus. Isn’t that what we desire, mighty men of God? Don’t we really want to be like Jesus? He is life perfected having been delivered from the sins of all the world through God’s grace and love. We are being perfected as well as the light of God shines around us, in us and through us. The first step in that journey is the sacrificial offering Jesus made on the cross for us. Accepting His sacrifice for us proves God is waiting on no one to pursue Him. He is pursuing us.

So then, mighty men, we are to pursue others who are family, friends, even our antagonists with the light of God’s love as we have been pursued. That is the second step in our journey. With two steps we are engaged in the walk of faith. Let’s walk together and let the light of God so shine in the world.

“Let us be the best we have ever been as 2017 mighty men.”

HIS WORD for TODAY:

1 John 1. 1-5

“‘That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete. This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.'”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

Last words? Was John, the beloved disciple and apostle and Elder of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor, peering into what he believed was the end of the age? Are we? Are we seeing such darkness in the world that we take our eyes off the light of the world which is Jesus Christ? We are, as mighty men of God, members of the body of Christ and heirs to the Kingdom of God which is the Kingdom of Light. We are members of the Church whose head is Jesus Christ and thus the continuation of the ministry of the gospel as the royal priesthood of all believers. There has to come a time of transition from one generation to another. The generation of the disciples was coming to an end. John would have been the last surviving disciple and first eye witness to the ministry of Jesus Christ from the calling of the twelve to the commissioning of the eleven before His ascension. Into whose hands was the responsibility of ministry given?

This is who, I believe, John was now truly speaking to- the next generation. Yes, there were generations of followers already at hand. As the Great Commission reached out through the apostles, especially through Paul and Peter, into the expanding world of Jew and Gentile, many were coming to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Many would be leaders of home groups, small churches and powerful movements. Nations would be challenged and ideologies would be confronted. But, in the end there was still “one,” John, who remained. His day of departure was coming. His revelation of the last days was at hand. Was it a signature of the final end time or was it “graduation” day when the next gathering of leaders would be leaned upon instead of being those who leaned on?

And that day continues today, mighty men of God. We continue to lean on Jesus Christ and seek the presence of His Holy Spirit to lead and guide, strengthen and support, encourage and embolden. But, generations now are asking for leadership to lean on as well. And in these darkened day where sin abounds and our awareness of it swells because of our ability to communicate so quickly so, too, must the light of life and truth. It is up to us. We do not have time to delay. We must not hesitate. The power of God is not stoic nor passive. The love of God is passionate and active. It beckons to be released as greatly as its need for release is called for. What are we waiting for. The fullness of God’s mercy and grace is at our command. Regardless of our physical, mental, social, material, financial and even spiritual conditions we must act in faith, with hope and by love to confront the darkness and beat back its horizon until it fades in the growing light of God’s mercy and grace. If we wait for God to do it then it may be too late for us because then we will be seen as those who laid both plowshare and sword to the ground in surrender and thus defeat. We are more than conquerors through Christ. We are witnesses and declarers of the truth of Jesus Christ. We are to be in the world and not of it. We are to go into the world and not wait for it to come to us.

Rise up, mighty men, it is our time!

“Let HIM be seen in the mighty men of 2016.”

We are hearing from the beloved apostle, John, in this writing. He may have been the last of the fourteen apostles alive at the time of this writing. He was given charge for the care of Mary, the mother of Jesus, as one of Jesus’ dying wishes. He was arrested and sent to Patmos which was a prison island for the criminally insane for his work as the elder of the seven churches of Asia Minor. He would not stop speaking about Jesus and proclaiming both the gospel of grace and the judgment of the world which was at hand. I am led to consider all of this as I read this part of John’s writing to the Church because he speaks of “eye” witnesses. He was not addresses with the power of the testimony of the Church. The eyewitnesses to Jesus’ life, death and resurrection were dwindling in numbers if, in fact, not now down to one- him. But, the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ was evident throughout the commissioned ministry of Christ to those disciples and apostles into all the world beginning in Jerusalem and continuing on to all nations. Jewish leadership in Jerusalem had attempted to silence the gospel and drove it into the territory beyond their borders. Judaizers had tried to silence, or at least compromise it, wherever Jewish populations had gathered in distant lands. Heretics and leaders of other religions had tried to corrupt and destroy it because it was withstanding the challenges of logic and lies to change lives in the name of Jesus and leave the mark of hope through so many believers. Even the power and threat of Rome could not keep its power and influence at bay. Without doubt the desire of Paul to carry the gospel to Spain and beyond was accomplished by those who were a witness to his ministry. Christianity was a world religion of righteous relationship with the resurrected Jesus.

No, John was not bearing witness with the claims of the original band of believers as he wrote this letter to the Church. He was including the next generations of believers whose experience by faith with Jesus Christ was fueling the fire of passion to help others receive their salvation. He was and is including the mighty men of today. It is our testimony that is being fanned into the fire of glory and the hope of transformation leading future generations to become a part of the greatest story ever told. The community of faith, the body of Christ, continues to grow and make its mark on the world. The wages of sin remains death but blessings of grace remains eternal life. The scope of the gospel impact increases and beats back the darkness of doubt and despair with the light of the world- Jesus Christ. It is happening because God has the power, ability and authority to work good out of all situations in our lives so that we can see how awesome He is. He cannot be defeated. He is victorious over the threat of death and death itself. God’s love can be refused by others but it cannot be stopped. The day is coming when the tide of grace will be so strong that Satan and evil will be swept away into the Lake of Fire and there dwell eternally in the misery of their own making. And even there I cannot help but consider that the blazing fire of judgment which is the other side of the coin of God’s grace will keep the illumination of accountability bright so that they will see their sin and the penalty of their refusal forever. There will be no darkness- all will be brought to light.

The choice for the mighty men of God (men, women and children) is whether to dwell in the light of God’s glory and grace or in the light of His inescapable judgment.

“Let HIM be seen in the mighty men of 2016.”

Imagine the best hamburger that would suit your taste. Mull it over in your mind. You can begin to smell it. Your mouth begins to water as you taste it. It is almost as if your hands reach out to take it and bring it to your mouth and before you can take a bite you have already swallowed it. You are filled with delight.

Did it work? Is your imagination that good? Are you still lingering with a hunger for that burger and know exactly where to go and get it? Heck, watching “Diners, Drive Ins and Dives,” I have seen plenty of burgers that I would love to go and taste. I am not there but my mind has certainly created a pathway for me to almost be there.

Now, I want you to think about God. Imagine all the goodness you can muster that is beneficial, no entitlement or spoiled-minded, for you and others. God is the creator and sustainer of that goodness and is so willing to provide it to you as a blessing to enrich your lives so you can serve others. We are called to use those blessings to help the body of Christ (those who are already a part of the body by the profession of faith that Jesus is the Christ and entered into newness of life through baptism by water and Spirit as well as those who will come to make that same profession) grow into full maturity. We love to consider all those good things about God because we, for the most part, know that God is good and would have no ill-will in Him against us. We learned to pray at dinner “God is good. God is great.” Yes, that is the God we all want to be next to and have on our side.

But, wait. In this world, and we can and should blame it on the sinfestation caused by selfish ambition and blind foolishness, not everything is good. Yet, it happens. God is aware of it. God is aware of all things. God knows it before it happens. God knows the series of events and infinite possibilities of choices we each can make. He knows the consequences of those choices. We barely do. So, if God is good then why are bad things happening to good people. We can excuse, and should we, bad things happening to bad people. But, we struggle when good things happen to bad people. What is up with this?

John provides an insight. In God there is no darkness- no evil intent, no guile, no malice, no sin. God uses each event presented to Him by each one of us as that opportunity to strengthen us, call us back to spiritual and righteous accountability. Most of all He is calling us back to authentic living. He does not want us to pretend like we know what we are doing. We are guessing most of the time anyway. And these “dark and bad things” which are happening in the world can actually be seen as instruments and instructions for learning about what is right and good. How much have we learned by what it is not. Light is the absence of dark. Dark is the absence of light. Good is what makes others better. Bad is what brings harm. Satan cannot tell the whole truth. God can never tell a lie.

Perhaps we need to realign our perspective on the bad things of life as working against us and see them as working for us. They do if we trust God and are willing to learn from them. But, if we are not then we are doomed to repeat them and add to the maddening validation of the lie that God does not care, is not concerned and no longer loves us. And that, mighty men is dark thinking so far from the light of truth…except for the light of truth in Jesus Christ which continues to glimmer hope in the world to call all men unto Himself so that they may receive the joy of their salvation.

“Let HIM be seen in the mighty men of 2016.”

HIS WORD for TODAY:

Psalm 131.1-3

“My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.
But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content. Israel, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

A popular Christian song declares “Darkness rejoiced thinking heaven had lost.” Mighty men, all is not lost. Our success in this world is not something we should boast about. Rather, it is the very opportunity to give God the glory and gratitude for making it possible. Oh sure, we can be successful on our own and have some impact on the world. But, in the long run we all are using gifts, talents and abilities created and bestowed by God into our lives. If we are doing these things to get the credit for them as if we had created not only the ability but the opportunity then the darkness has reason to rejoice. And if it rejoices, it rejoices only over the one whose boast is in themself and not in the Lord. For the truth of God’s purpose and presence shall continue to prosper into the far reaches of eternity’s light. But, the lie of God’s enemy shall continue to decay in the darkness where there is no life only death.

Think about that baby David spoke of. The baby is only concerned about life and living. It does not know the presence of death even if it were experiencing it. It thinks that whatever it is going through, whether pleasant or painful, is living. It is shaping and forming its concept of life based on his or her experience and the response of the caretakers to the situation. How has God responded to our predicament in the world? He has given us hope and the fruit of the Spirit. He has given us His Son’s life in righteousness to overwhelm and overcome sin’s sorrow. He has given us peace that passes far beyond our understanding of how and why, outside of true love, God has done these things. David learned this in his own life through his journey into and through the darkness. He heard the chants of false victory as he succumbed to temptation and satisfied his own personal lust for life. He experienced the death of a baby son and adult sons. The seeds sown there have grown into words of wisdom from both success and failure. And his success? It was attributed to the Lord. So, too, should ours, so that true peace and prosperity can be known in us and through us for the glory of God and the good of others.

“Let HIM be seen in the mighty men of 2016.”

HIS WORD for TODAY!

Matthew 24.4-14

“As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?” Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of Me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

“Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.” That should be a chilling thought for every mighty man of God. We dare not let our love grow cold. We are called to fan the flames of the Holy Spirit and keep the home fires of faith burning brightly. In times such as these when the darkness of sin and doubt seem great, we must take heart that it always seems the darkest before the dawn. Our Lord came into this world in one of those dark eras. The story of His birth in Bethlehem includes the very time signature of the cold, dark hour just before dawn. The campfire begins to burn out to embers and it must be rekindled in order to keep back the embrace of the night. The sun is just beyond the revelation of the horizon and hope must keep burning. When the angels appeared death was the conclusion of those shepherds. They felt the emptiness which comes from the chill of the night and the fear of the glory of the Lord which shone round about them. But, the gospel of the Kingdom was declared by the angels and suddenly the external need for fire was replaced by the internal warming of the Spirit.

Those on the road to Emmaus following the crucifixion and burial of Jesus remarked to a similar experience. It was not about the time of day that had left them cold but the grief of the loss of their hope for a Savior who would come into the world and deliver them from evil. Perhaps they were even acquaintances of Jesus at some level and the loss of their friend was sorrow insurmountable. So great was it that they could not even recognize Jesus as He walked and talked with them. But, in the breaking of the bread, they eyes were opened and they felt the burning of truth in their hearts. Jesus was not dead. He was alive as He said. His word was truth and that truth was the life and light of all men. He came in their darkest hour when their hearts were growing cold. Their joy had become an ember which His presence fanned into an evangelical flame. Just as it did for Mary Magdalene in the Garden when Jesus appeared to her and called her by name. In her joy, she ran effortlessly inspired by the truth to share the good news with the disciples.

Mighty men, it may seem as if these are dark times as well. They may well be. There is tragedy, death, sorrow, sickness and evil manifested without seeming end. The depth of the darkness appears as a spiritual black hole sucking the light out of life and the heat out of our passion. But, it cannot be so for us. We are given the truth in Jesus Christ and blessed with the indwelling and “on-dwelling” of the Holy Spirit. Just as in the Upper Room of Pentecost when the promised Spirit of the Lord descended from Heaven and danced among the disciples and with them, it can happen today. Set yourself aside to confess the darkness that remains in your heart, mind and soul. Rebuke it in the name of Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to return to you and bring the warmth of hope into the fire of truth. Love one another and let your love become the light of life which cannot be extinguished by the enemy. Be the beacon of declaration that salvation has come into the world and remains here to bring the word of truth into the fullness of day. Do not surrender to the shadows of doubt and fear. Instead, surrender yourselves to the love of God in Jesus Christ and love one another- friend and stranger, as you yourselves have been and continue to be loved by Him.

“Let HIS TRUTH be seen (and heard) in the mighty men of 2015.”

HIS WORD for TODAY!

1 John 1.5-6

“This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

“God is light. In Him there is no darkness.” James writes to the mighty men of God in Christ concerning the goodness of God. He says that every good gift is from our Father above, the Father of Light in whom there is no shadow. I remember one day when I was a kid playing outside in the summer sun. I had a tendency to run from others during a game of tag by looking down and watching their shadows. I stopped dead in my tracks. Tag- I was it. But, that didn’t phase me. I looked down and saw I had no shadow, or at least a very small one. It wasn’t small because I was small. It was small because the afternoon sun was directly overhead. I keep that image in mind as I read His WORD for today and associated passages. I also have that grand hymn humming in my brain in the voice of George Beverly Shea (yes, I am showing my age)- “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” For those who are unfamiliar with them let me share the first stanza:

“Great is Thy faithfulness,” O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

How wonderful it is to know that God is the Father of Light (and lights.) In Him there is no darkness nor shadow. This is where the Spirit wanted me to focus today. I was considering the nature of God as being free from darkness- no doubt, sin, false intention, etc. But, the Spirit brought this hymn to me and I marvel at the wonderful truth in it. Great is God’s faithfulness. There is no shadow of turning with Him. The phrase of “shadow of turning” refers to a sundial. If the sun is overhead there is no shadow. I was a part of the sundial in the moment of my awareness that summer day. We are called to be in that particular place in our own lives in this world. We are not taking the place of God in this world. We are standing in the place where God is. In that place there is no shadow because the glory of God is all around us. No matter how we turn nor in what direction, as long as we are under the “sun-ship” of God we are perfectly in His glory and grace. Yes, as Christ followers we are called to be under the “Son-ship” of God covered in His glory and grace. With this in mind at the moment, let me offer two points. I am sure there are many others the Spirit will teach me but two are offered now.

1) Turning with God is how we should be as we are repenting of the wrong we thought, spoke or committed by action. Turning on our own only says “oops, wrong way.” But, turning with God declares “I have sinned against God and man (including myself) and I am sorry enough to seek the everlasting change of my heart, mind, body and soul.” Yes, the path we may travel in that wrong direction may lead into darkness. But, in that moment of awareness by reality of disaster or the anticipation of it and its consequences, the Light of Life dawns on us. We turn in repentance and find ourselves under the Light of Lights. The shadow of death disappears and we see the truth of our salvation. The prodigal son found this truth and in the light of that truth he found his way home to the father. David wrote about such an experience when he said “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. Your rod and staff comfort me.” The rod and staff represent the cross. The cross is the light of truth. When it is lifted up the light of God’s glory and grace comes over us. We are no long apart from the light but we are a part of the light.

2) I think of our nation. In our pledge we declare, by a fairly recent addition to it, “one nation under God.” How I shudder to think how we have stepped out from under the light of God’s Spirit of wisdom, truth, favor and grace. We are heading down paths with lights of our own cognition and creation. They are splinters of the light of truth heavily energized by the truth as many would rather it be. We are looking for lights of convenience instead of lights of conviction. I am not speaking of conviction as a judgment unto death. I am speaking of the quickening of our conscience, the voice of God who alone is moral and truth without shadow of doubt, deceit, despair, death and false intentions. We are not calling ourselves into accountability before God when we follow these humanist lights. We are buying into lesser lights, lesser gods, lesser truths which cannot save, transform and unite God’s people. Strange enough that today I read how the area of land on which Washington, D.C., is built is slowly sinking. It is a geological phenomenon not caused by global warming and the rising sea level. It is an area of land that was pushed up by the last ice age. As the effect decreases so, too, does the ability to support the land. It is seeking its original space at a depressed level. If this isn’t prophetic then I miss the mark and repent. But, Jesus taught “a city set on a hill cannot be hidden any more than a light put under a bushel can be seen.” God fully intends for America to His shining light as a nation among nations. His purpose is for the Church to the shining light of faith, hope and love among all nations. He intends for all His people to be shining lights of His glory through acts of faith by His love to restore hope and cause reconciliation. But, if our nation decides to hide the light of God and believe its own glory and decisions will be the true illumination of the capitol dome then the true is not in them. It will move from us as it did in the days of Ezekiel out of the temple to sit on a distant hill to await restoration.

Mighty men, there can be no shadow of turning with God. Great is His faithfulness unto all generations who will abide by His name and live according to His purpose. We must be in the light and not apart from it. We must be under His light so there will be no shadows of doubt on our part as to who we are and what we will do.

When Jesus told the Elder John that “God is light,” He was speaking to God’s very nature. In the day and age of “light” thinking, I pray we do not trivialize this declaration of truth and make light of it. God is not a light switch to be turned on and off. God is not a feather to be swept away by the winds of doubt, bitterness, confusion, hostility and ill-will. But, God is so powerful that even if He were a feather He would be able to lift the whole universe under it without the need for an entire wing. God is not carefree. His care endures forever and reaches deep into the heart, mind, soul and spirit of each person (believer or non-believer) and whispers the truth of life leaving it to echo patiently and hopefully. But, God does enjoy laughter and knows exactly how to have the best time of all life. I even imagine Jesus dancing, singing, clapping and laughing with His followers at dinner, by the seashore, on their walks and around a campfire. I have little doubt there is such behavior in Heaven as well. However, when Jesus described His Father, our God, as “light” He is talking about the glory of wisdom and peace, love and joy, mercy and grace. His Glory is so magnificent that in His presence all the darkness of creation falls away. These are the darknesses of ignorance, fear, disease, dying, death, war, hatred, bigotry, disdain and more. God sees these things as plagues upon His people. They are the manifestations of disobedience- the lack of true love. His light is His life. It is perfect in every way. It can be consuming but maintains perfect balance so that life is encouraged and not destroyed. With God there is no question about what will happen. His intentions are revealed in hope and in trial. In Him all things work together for good which are committed to Him and His purpose.

And how do we access that “light” of God? By living more and more in the truth of His Word revealed before us in Jesus Christ and the testimony of faith born by His followers. As we discern His truth and His will, we will find, mighty men, that our own lives will become better understood and lived out with the power, dominion and authority Jesus left in our hands at His ascension to Heaven following His resurrection walk on earth. Paul understood this as he wrote to the mighty men of the Roman empire saying “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word preached which is Jesus Christ.” When we speak the Word of God its truth becomes a powerful force for good. Paul likened it in his letter to Ephesus as a double-edged sword. The good that happens is on behalf of God’s people for their defense against the attack of the enemy as well as moving forward into the lairs of the enemy to liberate those captured in the lie of sin. Do not think that this sword is heavy. It is “light.” Yes, imagine if you will the Star Wars light sabers. Weight does not indicate strength or weakness. Jesus said “Take upon yourselves my yoke- it is easy and my burden is light.” Oh, but what a force that yoke has proven to be. It is the yoke of the cross. He bore our sins to death. We bear His righteousness to life. From our perspective flavored by the darkness of this broken world we may not fully see how it is light when its weight bore Jesus to death. But, Jesus offered His cross to His Father in Heaven. It was perfectly fitted for the purpose. It became heavy on His flesh but godly light in His Spirit. That cross would be heavy for us as well if we had to bear it alone. That is the awesome power of the truth- it can never be borne alone. The truth always brings the company of Heaven to our lives. That is why John shares with us this teaching of the resurrected Lord. He declares “If you say you are in the light and walk in darkness, you are deceived.” If you are in the light, you are accompanied by the presence of God. Your actions, thoughts, intentions and words are known by God perfectly. Walk in the light of God’s love, mighty men. Work in the light of His mercy and grace. .

“Let HIS TRUTH be seen (and heard) in the mighty men of 2015.”

HIS WORD for Today:

Matthew 4.12-17

“When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He withdrew to Galilee. Leaving Nazareth, He went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah: ‘Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles— the people living in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.’ From that time on Jesus began to preach, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.'”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

Generally, when we hear “a light has dawned [turned on]” it means that someone has a new idea or has received inspiration. When John the Baptizer was preaching in the wilderness and speaking against the ruling authority in Jerusalem the beginning of dissatisfaction was seen. Those who had been outcast and condemned as sinners and undesirables flocked to John to hear the word of forgiveness and acceptance by God. They were baptized for the forgiveness of sins and welcomed into a new community of Jewish faith. It was a faith that looked to the coming Kingdom of God instead of turning their eyes away from the Kingdom of man. But, John made no bones about the fact of being a prophet foretelling the coming of the Messiah whose Kingdom of such acceptance and forgiveness would have no end. He knew and believed that the revelation of the Messiah was imminent. This became fact when Jesus met him in the Jordan River and asked to be baptized. John declared, “Behold, the Lamb of God who comes to take away the sins of the world.” No more prophetic statement could he utter than this! And when Jesus was baptized in order to fulfill all righteousness, John heard God declare “This is My Son in whom I AM well pleased.”

But, in a matter of months, the mantel of prophetic responsibility would be passed. John would be arrested and eventually beheaded. Matthew shares with us this moment. It came when Jesus heard of John’s arrest. He quoted from Isaiah “The people living in darkness have seen a great light [the Spirit tells me this is John the Baptizer] and on those dwelling in the land of the shadow of death [those who previously had no hope] a light has dawned.” This light dawning is the coming of age of the Church. To those who had flocked to John it was now apparent that they were without a shepherd. We even know that John sent some of his disciples to Jesus to find out if “Are you the One or should we expect another?” He wanted to know [or was it to inspire] if Jesus would be the new Shepherd of this flock of God’s children seeking the Kingdom of God in their midst. Jesus replied “The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed are those who are not offended by Me [or my Word.]”

How appropriate, mighty men of God, that the Lamb of God becomes the Mighty Shepherd of God’s people. It is appropriate because we are lambs of God who now must become shepherds of God’s people. The identification of the lost sheep and those who are showing themselves to be false shepherds has become apparent in recent days. Our Supreme Court has now fully demonstrated they are not the SUPREME COURT! While fully operating as a governmental agency of civil rights they have demonstrated the extreme of their identity as “state separate from state.” Yes, compassion and equality of their civil rights may have been the correct course of action. Even their statement that religious entities and people have the right to continue to teach their own view of marriage shows that they are now separate from the Church. Where is the voice of those crying in the Wilderness “Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand.” Should it not be dawning on the Church that those living in darkness have seen a great light but the light at the moment streams from Washington D.C. and not from the Church itself? Are we looking at the wrong “city set on a hill”? Jerusalem has failed. Rome has failed. Washington D.C. has failed. The Church cannot fail!

Our light and our inspiration is Jesus Christ! He is the inspired, God-breathed and wholly incarnate Word of God living still on earth. The hill of Calvary still overshadows Mount Zion. It will continue to do so until Jesus returns to take His rightful place in the City of God, David’s throne, with the earth as His footstool. But, we [the called of God] will not be under His foot because we are not of the earth but on the earth only. It is Satan, who is in the earth and thus of it, who will be under His foot and crushed as God foretold when He cursed Satan and rebuked Adam and Eve. The day is coming, mighty men of God, when this truth is going to be fulfilled. Is the light dawning on you? Are you being inspired to speak up for the truth? Give thanks for a moment for this decision by the Supreme Court which gives the Church the opportunity to now have a public voice that says we can teach the message of marriage as “one man and one woman.” Does it not meet the expectation of scripture, Old Testament and New, for what defines our relationship with God? The Supreme Court does not speak with spiritual authority; it is merely the voice of civil authority. The Church cannot speak with a voice of civil authority because righteousness cannot be legislated. It must speak with spiritual authority which no power can silence. Calvary proved that and the Church is its living proof. Stand up for what is right, mighty men. Kneel for what is right, mighty men. Speak for what is right, mighty men. Be what is right, mighty men. For we are a people who have lived in darkness and the prophetic Word of God has been a great light. But, now a greater light has dawned on those who have lived in the shadow of death. It is the light of our salvation, Jesus Christ, which should now be most evident in our lives. It is through that light that salvation shall dawn on those who are still living in darkness and dwelling in the shadows of death.

YOUR Will be done in the year to come- 2014

HIS WORD for Today:

Luke 11:33-36

“No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead he puts it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be completely lighted, as when the light of a lamp shines on you.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

Scientists have been watching as a black hole consumes the corona of the star it used to be and begins to shape time and space around it as the light bends inwardly. Einstein theorized that this was a possibility and now we are able to see it happen. We cannot doubt the power of the “dark star.” That power can and does change the environment of those who enter its sphere of influence and those who surrender to its attraction. I am not talking about black holes in space. No, I am speaking of the Dark Star of the Heavenlies who is Satan. Another name for him is Lucifer, or Morning Star. But, for all his created value which he might have had in Heaven, his rebellion against God was an indicator that he was consumed with himself. His light turned inward and his aura became dark. He loves the darkness and invites his followers to gather in darkness and give themselves to the inward life of self first and only. His purpose is to turn God’s people away from God. It is a story of tragedy whose ending is eternally tragic. The only good news in that story is that Jesus still is Lord!

Jesus is the light of life which the darkness cannot consume. We have that light in us in part because God has breathed into us life. We are lesser lights while He is the greater light; that is the way it is supposed to be. But, with Him our light shines brighter. We are like the beacon on the hill unhidden, collected together and shining into the darkness to help guide others to safety and peace. Our power comes from our community of faith being one in the whole body of Christ. There is darkness in the world but one day there will only be light, the glory of God shining forever in us, through us and all around us. We must be of the light because in the light is life and it is the life of man. It causes us to grow, be fruitful and prosper to bring honor to God. We are meant to be creatures of the light and not of the darkness. Let your light shine before all men by shining out into the world and not bending in, bowing down to your own will and way.

PRAYER CONCERNS: (Needs of God’s mighty men that will be answered out of faith, hope and love)

* For those who are seeking to put an end to human trafficking that their success would be overwhelming so that the healing may be equally so
