GOOD NEWS FOR GOD’S MEN

September 3, 2017

Let us be the BEST we have ever been as 2017 mighty men!

HIS WORD for TODAY

” If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.!”  (2 Chronicles 7.14)

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

What is the name of the Lord?  Yes, we can create a list of many names beginning with YHWH, the “I AM,” which was revealed to Moses and through Moses to the people of Israel and to Egypt- the captive and the captors.  A part of that list would include those revealing the character and nature of God such as El Shaddai, God Almighty, and El Elyon, God Most High and Jehovah Jireh, Lord who provides.  We could also include positional descriptor names such as Immanuel, God who is with us, and consequential names such as Yeshua, God who saves.  It can be an extensive list or a short list, it matters not because just as the Good Shepherd knows each of us by name so He is known by us with a name.  And God who is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, has revealed Himself through Jesus as the Christ.  And at His name every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. (Philippians 2.10)

Are you seeing God’s revelation and promise in today’s Word- “If My people, who are called by My Name”?  It is not only the name which is given to us by a God who adopts us out of the dwelling place of sin and gives us His Name so that we might dwell with Him in His House.  It is also the person, My Name, the Holy Trinity which calls us to be His people.  God has shown us the who and the what of our existence as it was, as it is and as it will be.  How valuable is it for God’s people to understand the prophecy of 2 Chronicles which is revealed in the Gospels and is fulfilled in Revelation.  When God breathed life into us so that we are born into the world we are a people called into life by His Name- the power of creation.  But, because of Adam and Eve’s shortcoming we did not humble ourselves as a people and fell into the abode of sin.  When God breathed new life into us He made it possible for us to be reborn in spirit and in truth.  The consequences can still be the same as for Adam and Eve if we refuse to humble ourselves and thus remain in the abode of sin.  But for those who are called by His Name, who will humble themselves and repent, who will cry out in earnest and solemn prayer there is salvation, restoration, reconciliation and eternal life on earth as it will be and already is in heaven.

Mighty men of God, be called by His Name- Jahweh, God our Father; Yeshua, Christ- God of our salvation; and Holy Spirit.  Humble yourselves before all the world so that those in our world, our sphere of influence, can be saved and be called by His Name as well.

HIS WORD for TODAY!

Ephesians 4.1-3

“I, Paul, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

As mighty men of God, we must lay the emotional groundwork for being faithful ministers of the gospel in whatever sphere of influence we find ourselves. I believe this is what Paul was saying to the mighty men of Ephesus. It is far easier to be faithful and at peace whenever we are in the fellowship of believers than when we are in the world seemingly on our own. Of course, we are never alone. The Holy Spirit accompanies us on our way. But, we must do certain things to stay focused on our true calling which is to be one in Christ for the glory of God.

1) Be completely humble: False humility is like walking on thin ice. People can see right through it and eventually it will crack and you will fall. Complete humility is giving God all the glory and working with and for others to help them be successful. You are already counted as successful because you have declared Jesus as Lord of your life. You have nothing to earn from the world. All provisions belong to God who gladly bestows on you what is needed. Don’t act like you care and that others are important. Care is not a word but an attitude confirmed by genuine works.

2) Be completely gentle: This is not walk softly and carry a big stick. This is walk softly and speak the truth in love. Completely gentle is an attitude of compassion that is physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Jesus does not ask us to walk on eggshells. He does expect us to not be a bull in a china closet. The lives we minister to are on the verge of breaking if not broken already. There is no need to add pressure to what is already a situation on the point of going over the line.

(more to follow tomorrow)

“Let HIS TRUTH be seen (and heard) in the mighty men of 2015.”

PRAYER CONCERNS: (Needs of God’s mighty men that will be answered out of faith, hope and love)

* For those who lost loved ones on the Russian jetliner crash that they may be comforted and that investigators are able to determine the cause to lead to a resolution
* For family and friends battling cancer at all stages of life and those seeking to be their caregivers
* For wisdom among the world’s leaders as wars and rumors of wars rise up; earthquakes, floods, great winds and fire abound; and civil unrest reaches out across all secular and non-secular lines and to lead God’s people into the truth concerning judgment, the end of days and Jesus’ return for we are moving closer to it each day.
* For those who are seeking to put an end to human trafficking that their success would be overwhelming so that the healing may be equally so
* For Louisville, Kentuckiana, Goodwill and the people of Botswana
* For the needs of my family near and far and our friends healing, reconciliation and wisdom; for needs on my family now that far exceed our ability to handle on our own- we need God’s intervention and His wisdom as we seek to please and honor Him in the next step of our journey of faith for jobs in order to accomplish His purposes for us in the nations (this prayer concern is under attack by the enemy but we will not be dismayed); employees of the store under attack by the enemy- pray for healing and strength
* For the healing and comfort of the wife of a new friend in Christ and for the husband and family as they support her in this battle for wellness of body as she has in spirit; for comfort in God’s will for healing in Debbie and her family

* God has a plan for our service that will meet and exceed our expectations; He will guide us in the direction we need to go to serve Him and His people best

YOUR Will be done in the year to come- 2014

HIS WORD for Today:

Ephesians 4.1-2

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

Paul was raised to be a teacher and advocate of the Law. He studied under Gamaliel whose reputation for wisdom and the Law was unmatched. It had been decided for Paul (when he was Saul) that this was the course he would take with his life; probably before he was born. But, God knew him also before he was born; even before he was formed in the womb. His skill set, talents and abilities, even his passion, was meant to promote a life of righteousness. It was easy then to hear his passion again as he wrote to the mighty men of Ephesus “Live a life worthy of the one to which you have been called.”
There is one caveat in Paul’s life however. His calling would be to serve God through Jesus Christ and not the Law.

This has been brought to my attention as I reread the fourth chapter of Ephesians. Paul ends this section of his teaching with forgiveness. The call to forgive one another as we have been forgiven in Christ by God is our true calling. The rest of our life is the vehicle, the means, by which we can express it. Our life is our venue in which we preach, teach, share, live and make visible the life of Christ in us. Paul, then, is urging us to live a life worthy of our forgiveness. We have been the recipients of grace, getting forgiveness when we had done nothing more to deserve it than to cry out “Lord, I need Jesus to make sense out of my life, my purpose and my future. I am a sinner stumbling through life and missing the Way, the Truth and the Life that leads to Heaven.” Since we have been forgiven in such a mighty way and with no more effort than to see “Jesus be Lord of my life,” it should stand to reason that we also forgve others and give thanks to God that we are called “christian.”

PRAYER CONCERNS: (Needs of God’s mighty men that will be answered out of faith, hope and love)

* For the safety of all our school children in the midst of the rising violence showing up on campuses around the world

* For those who are seeking to put an end to human trafficking that their success would be overwhelming so that the healing may be equally so
* For the violence to stop in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Turkey, North Korea and the Ukraine and the open roads for peace be made so that healing may begin and peace rules
* For protection on Christians around the world and the celebration that all life lived in Christ will be blessed with life in the Kingdom

Father, as we go through this day fill us with Your Holy Spirit and empower our words and deeds to be those of inviting and bestowing forgiveness on others in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

YOUR Will be done in the year to come- 2014

HIS WORD for Today:

Galatians 3.5-6

“Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard? Consider Abraham: ‘He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.'”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

Mighty men, God’s will (His desire and unnegotiable plan) is that you be credited as righteous. It is by righteousness alone that we can gain access to the Kingdom of God. But, righteousness does not come by our works as if the meeting of the rubric of the Law was possible. Righteousness comes by believing. Does His Word not say, “Abraham believed God and we credited as being righteous.” We know that Abraham would have been guilty under the Law if there had been a Law given to him. But, He did not have the Law of God written upon his heart and mind. No, Abraham had a call placed upon his life. That call came out of an awakening in the Ur of the Chaldees to follow only one god and that god was the One God- Yahweh, Jehovah. He choose to believe in this One God, a God of Oneness which bore a truth for his life that he could not deny. It led him out of Babylon and ultimately to the land which surrounded Salem which he called Ur-Salem, or Jerusalem. In Jerusalem, he met Melchizadek, the high priest in Salem of the Most High God. His very name means “King of Righteousness.” We do not hear the Law being a part of life in Salem as it was not put on Abraham by Melchizadek. But, we know they believed in God, the One God.

So, how is righteousness credited to you, mighty men? Is it not by your redemption from the Law which Jesus Christ effected with His sacrifice on the cross? He paid the price for your freedom from the burden of the Law which is death! Why is the burden of the Law death? Because the Law without perfect sacrifice cannot be met and thus death is the result in order to be credited with righteousness. Even in the system of sacrifice which was implemented in the Israel of old there was imperfection. Yes, a sacrifice for the people, individually and corporately, was offered by the priests after the line of Aaron according to the Law. But, the people believed only in the act of the sacrifice not its call. The call to righteousness is love and true love is known by the sacrifice not of others but of self. This is why Jesus took on the cross for us, mighty men, so that He alone might face the judgment of death. He asked for no other to do this for Him. He asked to do it for us that we might be called righteous. Why are we called righteous when we still fall short of God’s glorious perfection? Because we cannot be retried for our transgressions in the Holy Court of God; and neither can Jesus. He died once and for all. He now calls you to leave the world of the Law which is bound by works and go where He calls you to a Land of Believing which is bound by love.

December 1, 2013

Love one another deeply from the heart of Jesus in 2013!

HIS WORD for Today- The First Day of Advent (Prophecy):

Jeremiah 1.4-5

“The Word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.'”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Have you ever wondered how God was answering your question, “God, what do you want me to do and where do you want me to do it?” You look for the answer in a “big picture” perspective that is usually generated more by what you want from God and not what God wants from you. You look for God to affirm your decision as to the course and the end of your life without taking that deep breath to affirm that God has decided what the course of your life will be and securing the end of your life regardless of how you get there. That is, of course, unless you have refused to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind; and your neighbor as yourself. That is, of course, unless you have decided to lead your life in a manner that is different from the one which Jesus is for us. You do know that Jesus does not determine what profession we will be in. Jesus determined that without respect to a profession we would be Christ-like in all we say and do in every place we say it and do it. He left for us His Holy Spirit, asking God to pour it out on all who would believe in Him, so that we would be enlivened from the soul out with gifts, talents and abilities that are character-oriented and leadership-bound. He did this so that we would bring glory and honor to the name and person of God in all that we are regardless of the office in which we do it. Bottomline, we are supposed to be like Jeremiah in the world. We are called to be prophets broadcasting the truth about the world as it is and the kingdom as it is to be on earth.

You do not consider yourself to be a prophet, mighty man? On this first day of Advent, we are invited to consider the prophecy of Jesus’ coming to earth to dwell among men so they might know of the truth concerning God. God was not meant to be distant or kept at a distance. The gospel story of His birth comes with an announcement that His name would be “Emmanuel, God with us.” As we share this good news of how Jesus entered into our world as the babe of Bethlehem, born of a virgin in low estate but who would be King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Mighty God, Wonderful Counselor and Prince of Peace, we are again being prophetic. It is an ancient word proclaimed by prophets, mighty men before us, that is as true and vibrant and needed now as ever before. It does not speak of a past but of a future that can begin today in our hearing. Jesus declared that prophetic truth Himself when we spoke in the synagogue in Nazareth, His adopted home town, as He read from Isaiah the declaration of Jubilee, the acceptable day of the Lord. It was prophetic and germane to their day. He said to them, “Today, this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

He said to His disciples before His ascension into Heaven, “Go into all the world and make other disciples in My name; baptize them and teach them all that I have commanded you.” God knew them before they were born as well, just as He knew Jeremiah. They thought they would be fishermen, accountants, soldiers, entrepreneurs, carpenters or just a wanderer through life. But, Jesus gave thanks to God for giving them to Him and He was glad to return them back to His Father with a clearer vision of who they were and who they were meant to be. They were born again in Christ, a new creation, and transitioned into a prophetic ministry of the gospel declaring a world that was coming into its own because of the gospel of God’s great love revealed in and through Jesus Christ. You can be that prophet regardless of who you are, where you are and what you are doing- as long as you are keeping Christ first and foremost in your heart, mind and soul. I do not think there can be any greater gift than this, other than Christ Himself, that you can give to another- the sense of who they are their true purpose and place in the world. It may be as a doctor, a lawyer, a pastor, a teacher or flipping burgers at Dairy Queen. But, regardless of vocation you, like Mary, bear the Savior of the World in you not to be kept to yourself but to share with all the world.

Love one another deeply from the heart of Jesus in 2013!

HIS WORD for Today:

Jeremiah 1.4-5

“The Word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.'”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

How old does one have to be in order to be a prophet? The answer is, of course, one doesn’t even have to be born in order to be a prophet. That certainly means that one does not have to go to school to be a prophet either. But, one does have to have a relationship with God and be infused with the Holy Spirit of God in order to hear and understand the Word of God as it is revealed and then be able to share it so that it is understood by those to whom you are speaking. Jeremiah was raised in a priestly family. I have no doubt that he was taught the scriptures and the ways of the Lord. Interesting to note that even with such a background as this Jeremiah, like Moses and Isaiah before him, found the task of speaking for the Lord to be a daunting task. Moses declared he was not eloquent enough to speak to Pharaoh; yet, he was raised in Pharaoh’s court as a prince of Egypt. Isaiah declared he was a man of unclean lips who dwelt in the midst of a people who were like minded. Yet, Isaiah had risen to the office of prophet for the kings of Israel which would not be possible if he were not trained and respected as a mighty man of God. Then we come to Jeremiah who disqualifies himself on account of his age. He said I am a youth, a child, so I do not know how to speak before kings and rulers. While he was appointed and imbued with the spirit of God to be His prophet before he was born, there is a definitive time when he understood that there was a calling on his life. On this point, scholars do not agree or even conjecture. Is this point in time unimportant? I believe the answer is “no.” I believe it is important to know that there comes a time in our lives as mighty men of God when we no longer speak as a child. The apostle Paul wrote to the mighty men in Corinth, “when I was a child, I reasoned as a child, I acted as a child, I spoke as a child. But, I have put aside childish ways and now I speak as a man.” This could be read literally or figuratively so chronological age is not the issue but a maturity factor. This certainly could be the case of Jeremiah and, as such, speaks to us as well who are commanded to speak the Word of the Lord to others.

I would like to offer another insight which stands in line with Jesus Christ who as the age of twelve was found by His earthly parents teaching the elders and temple leaders in Jerusalem following Passover. When He was asked by His mother what He was doing, He replied, “Why are you searching for me? Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” Jesus was certainly no boy at that time. In Jewish tradition of Bar mitzvah, a twelve year old boy begins his journey into manhood with the recitation of passages from the Law and the Prophets. Was Jeremiah twelve years of age and entering into the study for his own bar mitzvah? In that study did he find himself in God’s Word and the Word in Him? It is possible. It is also possible that we are the same as Jeremiah. Before we are in the Lord and He in us, we are like children. We have a limited knowledge of God and the ways of God but when we begin to take ownership of that relationship it begins to take ownership of us. We can make all the excuses we want and try to reason with God why we shouldn’t be considered for this sacred duty. But, God will reach out and touch us and make it possible for us to speak the words of faith, hope and love in manner that is needed so that someone or many can hear the Word of the Lord for themselves and let it take ownership of them. Regardless of the age, we are still children of the Most High King.

April 2, 2012

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Jeremiah 1.4

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

God has a plan and a purpose for each one of His children. Not all of His children avail themselves of this appointment and calling however. Some do not appropriate it to its fullest and struggle through life wondering about that emptiness they experience with an incomplete life. It isn’t that their life is empty and has holes in it. Rather, consider that the emptiness is the lack of fulfillment using the total package God has created in you to the maximum extent of God’s purpose. How we struggle at times wondering if what we are doing is what God desires for our lives. We can ask ourselves 1) Is it helping others to become all they can be for the glory of God? 2) Are we portraying the presence of God actively in the world for all to see? 3) Are we proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and as the sole means of entering into eternal life?
If we are then we are doing what God desires for us to do with our lives. Does God have another medium for our lives to accomplish these good works? Has He called you to be a prophet, a teacher, a pastor, a preacher, an administrator, a healer or an evangelist? That will be revealed to you by God in its appropriate time according to His Will and purpose for the future of this world. HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Romans 11.11

“Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

There are times we do not realize the value of something, especially someone, until it is lost. How important it is to take the time to make sure that those we love and respect know that we do. Taking anything for granted is merely the invitation for it to fade from our sight as if it never existed. It only hurts ourselves when we believe something we have always had will always be there. It may will be there but in the gathering clutter of the rest of our lives we may lose our remembrance of it. Watch a child playing with a toy. He puts it down to take up another toy and, as if on cue, that toy which was put aside is picked up by another child. All of a sudden a battle ensues about whose toy it is. We are a curious people. The behavior remains the same regardless of our age.

Paul takes up this theme as he calls the descendents of Abraham to the awareness of their place in the kingdom. Because of their penchant for faithlessness and a casualness toward their relationship with God, the Gentiles are invited into the Kingdom as full heirs. He states that it happens this way so as to spark a sense of re-ownership to their call as children of God. He would love for those mighty men of God to take up the standard of spiritual leadership. He would rejoice with those who lifted high again the banner of “Chosen” before all the world not as the only but as the first. The mission and purpose of the nation of Israel was to be God’s witnesses so that all would come and believe. Isn’t that our mission and purpose as well? If the mighty men of God today, those who are “gentiles,” lay aside their essential ministry and take their salvation for granted, shall their blessing also diminish? Will it perhaps not be offered to others? Do not take your call for granted. Honor it by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ to all the world. Maintain the passion of faith, hope and love. Refresh your spirit by building relationships and growing stronger in your resolve to be His witnesses.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

2 Samuel 7. 8

“Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the
pasture and from following the flock to be ruler over my people Israel.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Have you determined that your life’s circumstances and station is too little to be of any use to God? Have you allowed the opinions of others concerning your strengths and weaknesses to hinder your ability to grasp the opportunity God is preparing you for in His service? God’s mighty men are surely more than the birds of the air and the flowers of the field. Jesus taught that as God is continually providing for the sparrow He will surely do more than that for His own people. Nothing is insignificant to God: not the power of a sin or the authority of His grace. Yes, I believe that God’s grace is authoritative because its voice can drive away the threat of sin and protect God’s people who speak it from harm. But, what happens when it is not spoken or it is not heard? It is still available as Jesus confirmed that promised provision with His sacrifice on the cross. But, until it is given a hearing it cannot exert its influence of completing God’s will.

It was that same voice which David heard and which he proclaimed when Israel was confronted by the Philistine Goliath who mocked God and God’s people. It was the same voice David heard as he watched over his father’s sheep and all of their enemies from gnats to lions. It was the same voice David heard when it was said to him, “God is calling you to lead His people Israel.”
But, when David refused to listen to the voice of grace he lost its authority to protect him from evil and he fell into temptation. It took just one moment to set in motion some terrible events in his life and because of his life. There is nothing insignificant to God. He does not miss one thing about each of His mighty men even in their weakness. He desires to use each of His people for the greatness of the body of Christ. Listen to His voice and allow His authority of grace to protect you from evil so that you might now experience nor cause pain.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

1 Corinthians 15.1

“Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received
and on which you have now taken your stand.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

You have just got to love when the Word of God speaks, speaks to you and then dares to speak through you. Is it, however, a real dare for the Spirit to speak through you? Isn’t it rather that you dare to allow the Spirit to speak through you? How dare we allow the Spirit to speak through us! How dare we call ourselves mighty men of God! How dare we align ourselves with the gospel of Christ which we have received by the faithfulness of others who spoke faithfully to us with the greatest faith that we would, in turn, speak it ourselves to the present and future generations. Are you wondering about what it is I am saying? Are you feeling the challenge of my words? In fact, are they really my words which are challenging you or is it the Word of God which is challenging you. The Psalmist wrote “as deep calls unto deep.” It is the deep Word of God, the gospel of Christ, which is speaking into the depth of our being. Just as Jesus called into the depth of God’s mercy and love to release Lazarus and allow him to return to his family on earth as he was already free in heaven, so God called into the depth of the tomb where Jesus slumbered between heaven and hell and brought Him up through earth, for a little while, to sit with Him again at the right hand of the throne in Heaven. It is this same calling which the Word of God invokes in the depths of our being, through the dark recesses of fear and faith that the light of life, wisdom, be released to bathe our heart, mind and soul with power and goodness.

It is the Word of God whose depth the human mind cannot fathom that surrounds us with protection, production, proficiency and profit as a sea of faith in which the mighty men of God find themselves in the midst of life just as did the disciples. They drew their livelihood from it. They found their faith tested on it. They found their future through it. They were born again out of it. They became the captains over it. They were powered across it by the winds of faith, the Spirit of God, which set their sails full. Even in the doldrums which would arise and give no hope to the sails or in the storm when the sails would be filled with earthly wind that meant no good, the Spirit of God breathed over them and through them for life. It is the wind of faith which is our strength as mighty men of God. It was given to us when the gospel of Christ was preached to us and it is renewed within us when we hear it, listen to it, seek its wisdom and then share it with others. It is the gospel of Christ upon which we take our stand. It is like a solid rock which gives us our balance and security. It is not a millstone tied around our necks due to our sin so that we might be cast into the sea in judgment to die. It is a life preserver, life raft and ballast which keeps us afloat. We can take a stand on it and with it against the storms of life which come against each of us. It weights us only so that our feet can stay firmly planted in faith, hope and love.

It is this Word that I simply want to remind you of, the gospel of Christ which declares that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ of God who lived on earth as God’s mightiest men so that God’s men on earth shall live mightily confronting the throes of sin and the woes of those who wish to inflict suffering on others even bearing death as an opportunity to declare life that they might live as Christ who died to the world only to be lifted up from the pit of death into the height of life as only the Father can give and has promised so to do.
