GOOD NEWS FOR GOD’S MEN

September 3, 2017

Let us be the BEST we have ever been as 2017 mighty men!

HIS WORD for TODAY

” If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.!”  (2 Chronicles 7.14)

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

What is the name of the Lord?  Yes, we can create a list of many names beginning with YHWH, the “I AM,” which was revealed to Moses and through Moses to the people of Israel and to Egypt- the captive and the captors.  A part of that list would include those revealing the character and nature of God such as El Shaddai, God Almighty, and El Elyon, God Most High and Jehovah Jireh, Lord who provides.  We could also include positional descriptor names such as Immanuel, God who is with us, and consequential names such as Yeshua, God who saves.  It can be an extensive list or a short list, it matters not because just as the Good Shepherd knows each of us by name so He is known by us with a name.  And God who is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, has revealed Himself through Jesus as the Christ.  And at His name every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. (Philippians 2.10)

Are you seeing God’s revelation and promise in today’s Word- “If My people, who are called by My Name”?  It is not only the name which is given to us by a God who adopts us out of the dwelling place of sin and gives us His Name so that we might dwell with Him in His House.  It is also the person, My Name, the Holy Trinity which calls us to be His people.  God has shown us the who and the what of our existence as it was, as it is and as it will be.  How valuable is it for God’s people to understand the prophecy of 2 Chronicles which is revealed in the Gospels and is fulfilled in Revelation.  When God breathed life into us so that we are born into the world we are a people called into life by His Name- the power of creation.  But, because of Adam and Eve’s shortcoming we did not humble ourselves as a people and fell into the abode of sin.  When God breathed new life into us He made it possible for us to be reborn in spirit and in truth.  The consequences can still be the same as for Adam and Eve if we refuse to humble ourselves and thus remain in the abode of sin.  But for those who are called by His Name, who will humble themselves and repent, who will cry out in earnest and solemn prayer there is salvation, restoration, reconciliation and eternal life on earth as it will be and already is in heaven.

Mighty men of God, be called by His Name- Jahweh, God our Father; Yeshua, Christ- God of our salvation; and Holy Spirit.  Humble yourselves before all the world so that those in our world, our sphere of influence, can be saved and be called by His Name as well.

HIS WORD for Today:

2 Chronicles 7.14

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land!”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

Have you ever felt as if your life is filled with ups and downs? Usually when someone expresses that reality in their lives it is not seen as a positive. Most of us want a life of peace and balance. We do not want to feel like we are simply being tossed back and forth, one step forward and two steps back. But, if you watch the rhythm of God’s declaration you will notice that there is a truth to “what goes up must come down.” God’s mighty men go down on their knees and lift up their eyes. They look away from their wicked ways and look for God’s face. God in Heaven above will send down forgiveness and lift up the spirits of the mighty men which had been downcast. If truth be told, God’s mighty men actually find their peace in a spiritual life of such ups and downs. It mirrors God’s plan of salvation which Paul proposed writing “He who ascended is also the One who descended into the lower regions; so that the One who descended also then ascended to the heights of Heaven.” (Ephesians 4.9-10) He is speaking, of course, of Christ who left His place at the right hand of God to descend to earth and dwell among God’s people to show them the reality of righteousness and the possibility of gaining the place of righteousness in the world. He was lifted up on a cross as a sacrifice for our sins and in death descended into the prison of Hell to preach to the captives there that they, too, could be lifted up to join Him in paradise if they would be believe. We, too, are lifted up as we believe in Jesus as Lord. So you see, mighty men, our lives are a journey of necessary ups and downs. We must walk humbly in order to lift up the burdens of others to God who will send down His Holy Spirit to give the blessing of wisdom and healing. Take heart, when we are up we are up and when we are down it is merely the foreshadowing of being up again by the grace of God.

“Let HIS TRUTH be seen (and heard) in the mighty men of 2015.”

To the Hebrews, and all agrarian societies, “land” means everything. It is power, provision, livelihood, legacy and future. As I continue to read and pray this passage of scripture, I cannot help but think of the prayer of Jabez. In his prayer, he said, “Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let Your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.” (1 Chronicles 4.10) Territory meant his sphere of influence. It was the land he owned, the life built out of and on that land, and the people he served and was served by. I have been praying these prayers quite often of late because my spheres of influence have been shaky. I have allowed despair, confusion, helplessness, frustration and illness (known and discovered) to render me less effective in my work and in my home. It is a sad confession I make; safeguarded in part here because someone would have to read this to know this. But, I pray that if there is someone who needs this confession they will see it and know that God does have a solution which is presented in God’s declaration for His people. God provides healing to our land, our territory, our spheres of influence. We have to humble ourselves to receive it. Being humbled before others, especially the unrighteous is scary business and in the short term may be painful and costly. I face that reality now. I am left with the only option that is promised to make a difference. I have to be humble. I have to be honest with myself, my family and my colleagues. Most of all I have to be honest with God- not at the expense of others for the sake of doing what is right and good before the Lord.

Mighty men, the truth exists for us in this very point- until we humble ourselves before God we will struggle greatly and bring struggle to others. Jabez knew this and included in his prayer “let Your hand be upon me so that I can be protected and healed.” Other translations, interpretations, offer a bit of a different slant but an important one which is “that I might not cause pain.” We certainly don’t want to hurt, but as mighty men of God we certainly do not want to hurt others. And that is the truth.

“Let HIS TRUTH be seen (and heard) in the mighty men of 2015.”

It may be one of the most difficult things to do in life but also one of the most necessary: be humble. Humility is not the same as humiliation. Humiliation is what people do to others when they do not feel good about themselves. They make others feel small by telling them how bad they are, they condemn them and try to destroy their worth and value with accusations with words and actions. They do this to make themselves look big because in their mind big is a sign of power, authority, value and prominence. It is an illusion, however, and a lie. Destroying others to make one’s self look more important is sinful. But, humility is really about our relationship with God. It is about recognizing that God is greater than we are. He is all authority and value and worth. It is because He is love. Humility is recognizing our rightful place in the presence of God. God does not want to humiliate us. In fact, God wants to lift us up and help us be fulfilled. He wants us to be all that we can be. Humility is the admission of a wise person which says I cannot be all I am supposed to be on my own. I need help and my help, the real help I need, comes from the Lord.

Interesting, is it not, that God, for our sake as sinners, humbled Himself by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus, to be the Christ for us. The Christ, Messiah, is the person who is the supreme leader who will save His people from evil- sin and death (eternal death or life forever without God.) His Son humbled Himself by taking on human form and became willing to die for our sins so that we might be free to become who we were meant to be- sons and daughters of the Most High God. He was the victim of others’ attempts at humiliation by His arrest, His trial, His mocking, His beating and His crucifixion. But, on the cross He asked God to forgive even them because they did not know what they were really doing. They made it possible for Him to become the true sacrificial Lamb of God. In His innocence He purchased our freedom from the ravages of sin and eternal death. All we have to do is humble ourselves and admit that the life we truly want we cannot truly have unless we give ourselves to God in heart, mind, body and soul.

It isn’t always easy to be humble. There are times when we are proud of doing good and helping others. But, when the feeling of pride becomes the goal then we have lost our humility; our rightful understanding of where we are in the line with God. Instead, we are to be humble, living with gratitude and servitude, before God and one another. We are to make ourselves valuable to God by becoming valuable to others in loving service and in praising God. If we can keep ourselves in the right position before God then we will be in the position to receive His fullest and richest blessing. It isn’t always easy to be humble but it isn’t impossible; and it is always necessary, if we truly want to have a life worthy of the name of Jesus our Christ whose name is above all other names. It is in His Name that we have been saved. It is in His Name that we will be able to stand before the Judgment Seat of God and found worthy of entering into the fullness of His mercy and grace and heavenly peace.

With God all things are possible. We must remember the antithesis and keep in mind the realm of righteousness as we do. The alternative expression is “Nothing is impossible for God.” While God can do all things, what He chooses to do is what is righteous, good and appropriate for our situation in relationship to His call in our lives. God keeps His promises to us. We revisited that truth as we looked at the blessing given to Abraham and Sarah in their old age. We can see how God could restore productive lives regardless of our flesh and our timing. Some see this as a miracle but to God is was just another act of grace. Strange, is it not, that with God all things are possible. Strange in that He graciously offers us the possible and makes us possibility makers. we hear that truth in today’s Word. God declared (and “declares” because His Word is truth in any day) that when His people, those called by His name and are calling on His name, humble themselves with prayer and repentance and persistence then they can receive the possibility of forgiveness which is evidenced in the healing of their “land.” Yes, this healing is the making of possibilities for His people and making His people possibility makers.

I am rejoicing in this truth because I need it greatly in my life today. It doesn’t mean I do not need it every day but as we journey through life we are confronted with challenges of all kinds. Great or small, each challenge is an opportunity for success or defeat. If we address the opportunity with the ways of man and do not seek out God, then we have two possibilities- limited success or failure. Now God can turn those possibilities into good but only when we confess the limitation and failure is because we acted with our fleshly understanding instead of seeking God. If we do not then we are left with limited success or failure both of which lead to death and separation from becoming possibility makers. You see, if we address the opportunity of a challenge with the ways of God then we have only one possibility available to us- prosperity. I am not talking about prosperity as becoming the richest, financially, people on earth. That is a possibility for our life if God has determined we are meant to use great wealth for the purposes of His Kingdom on earth. I am talking about prosperity as being satisfied daily with our needs being met and with an abundance of overflow to meet the needs of others as the opportunity of service is revealed.

I have been given a challenge, in truth a number of challenges all at one time. God has blessed me with the plan of becoming a possibility maker- pray, repent, seek God persistently. If I do this then I will be forgiven of my human consequence of acting on my own volition without God as well as being healed in my purpose of serving God with my overflow of abundance of daily bread and provision. I must be determined and remain focused on being made a possibility maker. This means I seize the opportunity to give God every opportunity to demonstrate grace and mercy for me and through and in others. He wants to act for us, in us and through us so that more and more of His people will call upon His Name and be called by it as sons and daughters of the Most High.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

2 Chronicles 20.22

“As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

The call was extended to Jehoshaphat and all who lived in Judah and Jerusalem to “have faith and not be discouraged.” The sign of that faith and lack of discouragement was to march against a superior enemy seeking to invade the land but not fight them. Scripture does not tell us that they marched against them unarmed, only that they were not to fight them. Instead, they marched into the Desert of Tekoa singing and praising God. They were demonstrating their fearlessness with faithfulness- faithful to worship the Lord their God even in the face of battle. They were not praying quietly to themselves the prayers we are all wont to pray when things aren’t going our way hoping for an answer. Instead they sang and praised believing the answer was given. It should have been no surprise that they would find the desert and hillsides littered with dead bodies. Their worship continued as they gathered the plunder which took three days. They continued their worship as they entered back in to Jerusalem and went straight to the temple. The consequence of their faithfulness was peace and prosperity.

As mighty men of God, we would be wise to go into each day believing in the provision which God has already prepared for us. The demise of our enemies is a foregone conclusion and the rest is just worship. Will you sing and praise God today for what He has already done on your behalf? Will you go confidently into the world knowing you will not have to battle but only gather the resources that you will use to serve God’s will in peace? Trust in the Lord for His way is mighty and beyond the confines of men and devils.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

2 Chronicles 1. 9-10

“Now, Lord God, let Your promise to my father David be confirmed, for You have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of Yours?”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Since the days of Solomon, there has been (actually always was and will always be) one King who could truly govern the great people of God. That King laid down His life for the sake of His people and in obedience to the will of His Father God. He was, is and will forever be the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. As the mighty men of God focus their hearts, mind and spirit on the Day of Resurrection it should be with an intentionality of remembering their pledge to obedience to God made with faith, hope and love. Today is the day when Jesus Christ surrendered Himself to the ruling authorities for them to decide who He was in their own hearts and mind. Scripture tells us that they were covered by fear, afraid to declare anything that would make them less than they desired for themselves. They did not desire to be equals with God for that was blasphemy and their greatest accusation against Jesus Christ. Instead, they made themselves superior to God by standing in judgment of His Son, committing Him to humiliation and death. They declared their lack of faith and belief that Jesus of Nazareth could be the Son of the Living God by refusing to take the stand of faith before all the world and confess in wisdom and knowledge that Jesus was the Christ. Where would the world be today if they had taken that stance as mighty men of God? We will never know and now we should not dwell on that question. The consequence of their lack of faith proved to be the opportunity for the salvation of all of God’s people anyway (in spite of their efforts, or lack of them, to the contrary.) But, the question is posed to us. It is the same question which God posed to Solomon, “What do you want me to give you?” As mighty men of God we should desire God’s wisdom and knowledge so that we may lead God’s people in this world with dignity and integrity. Unlike Peter in the early morning hours who denied that he knew Jesus, of Jesus and was one of His followers, God’s mighty men have the opportunity to stand up and declare their allegiance to and alignment with the Word (Jesus Christ) and Will (love one another) of God. What did you answer today when God asked you “What would you have Me give you, mighty man of Mine?”

PRAYER CONCERNS (share your needs and others in the comment section so that God’s Mighty Men can join prayer forces as intercessors of faith, hope and love)

“The anger of the Lord burned against Amaziah, and He sent a prophet to him, who said,’Why do you consult this people’s gods, which could not save their own people from your hand?’”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

I don’t not want to think about the anger of the Lord burning against anyone, especially His own people who are called by His Name and who promise in covenant their reliance upon Him for all things in their life and in their future. I am grateful for His long-suffering, patience, forbearance and mercy when I fall short of what He intends for my own life. I pray each mighty man rejoices in the same. Yet, God’s mercy, forgiveness and grace are not “outs” for God’s mighty men and their wrong decisions and behaviors. God’s purpose for us is to live out heaven’s wisdom and love on earth so that all people may know of God’s reality in this world as it will be at all other times and places. But, there are those times when we forget ourselves, and thus God, and turn to other sources and resources to sustain our lives and provide our means of becoming successful, prosperous and effective. All these other resources (drugs, alcohol, extreme or consuming hobbies and interests, pornography, etc) are other people’s gods and they should not be, but they can, and have, become our gods at times and that should never be! The news of Whitney Houston’s’death is another sad legacy of drug addiction and confusion which the enemy of life sows into the wonderful world which God has made. The words spoken to Amaziah, King of Judah, are just as true today as they were in his day. “Why do you consult with gods that could not even save their own people from destruction?” Why do we? Are we not supposed to trust in the Lord our God and lean not upon the mere impulses of our hearts and the wanderings of our mind and the cravings of our earthly nature? God alone is our salvation. He alone is our rock, our shield and our fortress. He alone is our provision, permission and prosperity. He alone is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. He is also supposed to be all steps and times inbetween. Look into your own hearts, mind, spirit and homes to see what gods you lean upon to save your life or give you meaning and purpose. Does it point to God alone or to you? Does it give you hope or is it God? Tough questions, I know. They are speaking into my own life and reminding me of days gone by which I do not wish ever to repeat. Thanks be to God that His mercy has freed me from the sinful actions of the past which could have been my death in the future but is not the key to continue in sin today lest I bring suffering to others and suffer myself for eternity.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

2 Chronicles 15.7

“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Change is not easy. Many times change is downright hard. It is difficult because change means having to give up what has become a normal default routine in your heart, mind and spirit; recognize its faults and negative consequences and then learn something new which must be practiced over and over again until it becomes the new you. There are times when it is easy to change because we see immediate rewards and benefits. Short-term only reinforces simplicity of reason because when the real challenge to a new way of life rises up the change still only has shallow roots and can be too easily unplanted. But, there are times when no rewards or visible benefits at all for a long period of learning in the midst of change gives consciousness to futility. The tendency is to lose sight of the goal because the stomach of reason is hungry for affirmation. King Asa of Israel was called to make a change like that. It was difficult because the nations around him weren’t changing and even within his own circle of influence there were voices of “maintain the status quo.” But, God sent a prophet into his midst was became God’s voice of reason and encouragement. He spoke into the darkness with the light of revelation and truth so that Asa could stay the course. He opened his eyes to the truth of the failure in the people around him. He declared that the sacrifice to make the change to honor God and bring blessing upon his own people would be rewarded if he would remain strong in his commitment to trust God and do His will. Mighty men, you are that prophetic voice for others. You are to be a voice of reason, a presence of hope and a reminder of the truth so that others who are making the change toward total righteousness can succeed. You are called to be an encourager just as much as you recognize the need to be encouraged. I write these reflections as a means of encouraging you with God’s word and admonition to remain faithful to the cause of Christ in your life. If He is the cause in your life the effect you life will have for Him will be valued and fruitful. Be strong, mighty men, in faith, hope and love. Do not give up, for your work will be rewarded today and in the days to come.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

2 Chronicles 8.11

“Solomon brought Pharoah’s daughter up from the City of David to the palace he had built for her saying, ‘My wife must not live in the palace of David King of Israel, because the places the ark of the Lord has entered are holy.’”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Solomon understood the difference between “business” and pleasure. His first business as King and husband was to honor God and to maintain his relationship with him as his top priority. As he took care of the things of the kingdom then the rest of his duties and “pleasures” would be blessed. Pharoah’s daughter was not a believer in God. Even the political marriages, while acceptable, were not excuses for having unbelievers in the temple of God. Solomon was wise enough to know the difference. The temple of the Lord for the mighty man of God is his heart. He must take care who he allows to dwell in his heart. His first business as Son, servant and husband is to honor God and give Him first place in his heart. As he honors God in his heart so shall the rest of his life committed to God be blessed. Who dwells in your heart, mighty men of God? Are all things there honored and honorable to God and bring glory to His name?
