We may be like grass but we are not grass- we are the righteousness of God sown as seeds of truth into the world to bring the food of faith, hope and love to those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.

HIS WORD for TODAY:

1 Peter 1.24,25

“For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

Yes, we are like grass and flowers as illustrations- we will with and die and our color will pale and petals will fall. But, we are more than illustrations. We are the people and the righteousness of God. The Word of the Lord, the seed of truth and life, is placed within our DNA. The Spirit of the Lord can quicken the seed to reach out and become firmly rooted in the soil of faith in Jesus Christ. We will have life eternal and abundant. Though we may die, yet shall we live in glorious resurrection. We see it in part each day when we rise. We are given the opportunity for “new” life. We are enriched and blessed by the favor of God to continue to serve Him for another day. We gain trust in that blessing and in His riches of daily bread and reach out toward the Son of God and Man. We do so because God’s Word will never fail, fade or pass away. His Word is constant, sure and powerful. So, are we as we allow His Word to live in us and through us. Yes, even when we feel weak and incapable the strength of the Lord is capable and powerful. We may feel like a tiny mustard seed but our Lord has taught us that with even a mustard seed sized faith we can move the mountains of doubt, fear and hopelessness and if needed we could move mountains themselves because God is with us.

This is the truth that has been preached and taught to us from His Word. This is to be the same truth we are to preach and teach in our words and actions into all the world!

“Let HIM be seen in the mighty men of 2016.”

While the word of man can come and go, be true or failing, the Word of God given to us in Christ Jesus will remain in effect for our lives forever.

When the words and promises of men fail us we should not be surprised. It is the consequence of sin. Despite our best intentions to be right, think right and do right our word can and does fail ourselves, others and God. This is why we need to stay more in God’s Word. God’s Word is God’s presence in our lives. God’s Word is Jesus Christ. God’s Word is our salvation. God’s Word is our promise which was given through Jesus Christ and will never be taken away from us.

As mighty men of God we need adopt and hold on to God’s Word more and more. It is the answer and response to our relationship with the word of men. In God we trust. Our hope is in the Lord. God is our provision. Our supply is from the storehouse of God. When we feel shaky we must remember to stand on the solid rock of faith and the solid promise of God in Christ Jesus. Our future is secured and the only expectation given to us is to do our best to be a reflection and the living out of God’s Word today.

It surely isn’t easy. Sometimes it seems downright impossible. But, we cannot forget that what is impossible for and with men is possible for God as we cleave to His Word and to His Will!

“Let HIM be seen in the mighty men of 2016.”

HIS WORD for TODAY:

Hebrews 4.12

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

We need go no further than this promised truth- THE WORD OF GOD IS ALIVE AND ACTIVE. God does not take time off. He is working in all aspects of life and living. He has the fullest resource at His command to bring His Will to bear in the world and in our lives. It is man that tends to take time off. I am not speaking of the Sabbath. I am not sure we do the Sabbath rest correctly anyway. But, I am speaking into my own life as well that there are times when I am not working in the Lord all the time. I have no doubt my life would be improved if I did. I need to not think about time off or time out so much as I need to remember God is on time at all times. If I need to know what time it is. It is God’s time!

HIS WORD for TODAY:

1 John 1. 1-5

“‘That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete. This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.'”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

There is no greater joy than to see life advance with fullness, promise and peace. Most every parent wants the lives of their children to be better than their own. We do not want to just pass on a legacy of continuation but a promise of growth. Grace makes us better than we were. Before grace we were stained by sin and limited in our ability to live the life which God had created us for. But, by grace in Christ Jesus we are made new, renewed and improved. We are restored, reshaped and revitalized. We are reconciled with God and the relationship between us and God is no longer broken. There are no missing rungs in the ladder. There are no missing links in the chain. There are no gaps in the bridge. The chasm of sin has been overcome. As mighty men of God we are working to make this world a better place to live by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. It isn’t limited to building homes, businesses, danger-free zones. We are to do that. But, the purpose is to proclaim the acceptable day of the Lord and the full expression of God’s love. This is our joy and our desire is for this joy to be complete. It is complete not when the job is done but when the work becomes perpetual and continues to work.

Just as in creation when God declared “It is good,” He didn’t mean it was finished. Rather, He meant it was doing what it was supposed to be doing and it would keep doing it for the glory of God. Heaven is going to be like that. Our work is not finished as mighty men of God. A task may be completed but our work, our service, our worship should go on and on. This is why God calls it eternity- it is forever. It is not “one and done.” It is “one and on!” May our joy be complete as we see the next generations moving forward in pursuit of the kingdom leaving behind the good works of faith, hope and love which are themselves bearing seeds of fruitfulness and prosperity for generations to come.

“Let HIM be seen in the mighty men of 2016.”

HIS WORD for TODAY:

1 John 1.

Last words? Was John, the beloved disciple and apostle and Elder of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor, peering into what he believed was the end of the age? Are we? Are we seeing such darkness in the world that we take our eyes off the light of the world which is Jesus Christ? We are, as mighty men of God, members of the body of Christ and heirs to the Kingdom of God which is the Kingdom of Light. We are members of the Church whose head is Jesus Christ and thus the continuation of the ministry of the gospel as the royal priesthood of all believers. There has to come a time of transition from one generation to another. The generation of the disciples was coming to an end. John would have been the last surviving disciple and first eye witness to the ministry of Jesus Christ from the calling of the twelve to the commissioning of the eleven before His ascension. Into whose hands was the responsibility of ministry given?

This is who, I believe, John was now truly speaking to- the next generation. Yes, there were generations of followers already at hand. As the Great Commission reached out through the apostles, especially through Paul and Peter, into the expanding world of Jew and Gentile, many were coming to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Many would be leaders of home groups, small churches and powerful movements. Nations would be challenged and ideologies would be confronted. But, in the end there was still “one,” John, who remained. His day of departure was coming. His revelation of the last days was at hand. Was it a signature of the final end time or was it “graduation” day when the next gathering of leaders would be leaned upon instead of being those who leaned on?

And that day continues today, mighty men of God. We continue to lean on Jesus Christ and seek the presence of His Holy Spirit to lead and guide, strengthen and support, encourage and embolden. But, generations now are asking for leadership to lean on as well. And in these darkened day where sin abounds and our awareness of it swells because of our ability to communicate so quickly so, too, must the light of life and truth. It is up to us. We do not have time to delay. We must not hesitate. The power of God is not stoic nor passive. The love of God is passionate and active. It beckons to be released as greatly as its need for release is called for. What are we waiting for. The fullness of God’s mercy and grace is at our command. Regardless of our physical, mental, social, material, financial and even spiritual conditions we must act in faith, with hope and by love to confront the darkness and beat back its horizon until it fades in the growing light of God’s mercy and grace. If we wait for God to do it then it may be too late for us because then we will be seen as those who laid both plowshare and sword to the ground in surrender and thus defeat. We are more than conquerors through Christ. We are witnesses and declarers of the truth of Jesus Christ. We are to be in the world and not of it. We are to go into the world and not wait for it to come to us.

Rise up, mighty men, it is our time!

“Let HIM be seen in the mighty men of 2016.”
