If you want to be found by God then you must earnestly seek Him with all your heart, mind, soul and strength; loving God and neighbor as you would desire to be loved by them. Seek and you will be found!

HIS WORD for TODAY:

Deuteronomy 4.29-31

“But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey Him. For the Lord your God is a merciful God; He will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which He confirmed to them by oath.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

If from anywhere you seek the Lord your God, He will be found by you. But, you must seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. Later, it would be written “With all your heart, soul, mind and strength” as the prescription of loving God. If you love God you will seek Him. If you seek Him, then you must love Him. He has sought us in Jesus Christ because He loves us. Because He loves us He seeks us out. It is not because we are hidden from Him (for God is everywhere and knows our heart, mind, soul and spirit from the inside out) that He seeks us. No, He seeks us so that we might know of His love for us. He calls to us. He beckons our voice so that we might hear Him speak it. He desires for us to hear Him talking to us and trusting that it is Him who is speaking and seeking.

But, as mighty men of God, we must be seeking as well. It is not that God has need of us in order to be sustained. He has a need for us and sustains us that we might know Him and flourish in His love. It gladdens Him when we call on His Name and seek His presence in our lives and in our world. It saddens Him when we travel our own way and pursue our own will instead of trusting Him in all things at all times. But, His sadness does not create a a sense of desertion on the part of God. He is still there and He is still pursuing. But, He will not inflict Himself upon us. In love He protects us from ultimate harm in this world which the enemy through sin would desire to inflict upon us. Yes, we still suffer and experience loss and pain. But, it could be far worse for we could die then without having returned to God.

This is why Moses declared to the people of Israel, those who were called by the name of the Lord, “Seek Him and He will find you.” He will restore you and His blessing will be plentiful even in the presence of your enemies. Do we want to be found by God? That is how we find Him! We seek Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength; loving God as we would love our neighbor. If we are doing that, mighty men, we will find each other and what a day of rejoicing that will be. This is the purpose of Christ- to bring Father and son together forever.

“Let HIM be seen in the mighty men of 2016.”

HIS WORD for TODAY:

James 4.10

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

James must have ached as he penned these words to the mighty men under his leadership and the families they served. James, the brother of Jesus, was one of those family members who had a very difficult time embracing that his half-brother was indeed the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. He stood by his mother and urged Jesus to come away with them to Nazareth or some other secret place. He didn’t want Jesus to get hurt if for no other reason that James loved their mother and didn’t want to see her hurt- emotionally and perhaps physically. He had serious doubts about Jesus. But, he was finally won over as were so many as he watched the person of Jesus bear the brunt of persecution and execution with dignity and a quiet strength that could only come from God. Coupled with the resurrection experience and how could he do anything else but believe.

Not only did he believe but he took on the leadership of the early Church in Jerusalem and headed the Jerusalem Council that attempted to maintain the delicate balance of those who followed the Way and those who were transforming away from strict Judaism or those who were Gentiles and had no true religious experience at all. He was a man of strength. But, that strength had to be humbled. His confession of faith showed his desire to be repentant as well as to be righteous. He had to humble himself before the Lord and the Lord rewarded him with the stewardship of the Jerusalem Church.

But, what would have happened if James had humbled himself only to men and to the temple leadership? They are long forgotten and their legacy is as a vapor dissipated into thin air. So, too, would James’ legacy. In fact, apart from Mary, Joseph and James who were the other brothers and sisters in Jesus’ family. He taught plainly, “those who do the will of My Heavenly Father are members of My family.” Speaks volumes, does it not?

So, mighty men, decide for yourselves to whom shall you be humble? If the question is about who can truly lift you up then I guess you have your answer! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!

“Let HIM be seen in the mighty men of 2016.”

January 28, 2016

As those who walk by faith and not by sight, we walk through the eternal tomorrow given to us by the love of God through Jesus Christ. As we walk humbly, being thankful that God has provided for us in our earthly “day to day” living we shall be lifted up in the resurrection to enjoy the fully revealed presence of God.

HIS WORD for TODAY:

James 4.10

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

Yes, and God will lift up those who humble themselves before the Lord. In this world we are promised daily bread and provision enough to do what needs to be done each day. So many people in the world live “day to day” lives. And so, too, must the mighty men of God. But, our “day to day” living is about service not hopelessness. Our hope is in Christ who also humbled Himself before God as was truly lifted up as we know. The Son of Man had to be lifted up for our healing and daily provision as we live and serve in this world. But, in so doing, He was shown us that we shall be lifted up in the resurrection of the dead upon His return. Our promise is fulfilled for eternity. We are living in the shadows of that endless day. Sometimes those shadows dissipate and we see the Heaven granted to us a bit more clearly. Sometimes those shadows are like the heavily clouded day. Yet, even on those days we must remember, reminded by practical experience, that the sun is still shining even though we cannot see it. So, too, is the Son of God’s promise still shining over us. The blessing of His Holy Spirit is that light of revelation teaching us and reminding us that we have all our tomorrows already given to us. God has anticipated them and provides for them. We must remain humble and journey with Him by faith in our words and in our works.

HIS WORD for TODAY:

James 4.10

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

As mighty men of God we are to put ourselves in the place of obedience before God. It is His will that we are to be doing and not our own. Of course, there are times when we are not as fine tuned as we ought to be and receiving the direction of God is not as clearly defined. In those times, we must humble ourselves to the Word of God and follow it because it reminds us of the basics of living in righteousness: love one another, love God, do good works to improve and build up the lives of others, seek justice, love mercy, impart wisdom, praise God, give thanks in all things and be humble.

Humility is the act of service knowing that in all things we cannot out do God. We are to be God’s agents of revelation in this world. We are a part of the company of ministering angels. We take our form from the image of Christ on the night when Judas took on the course of having Jesus arrested. In that Upper Room not far from the temple, Jesus took off His outer robe and knelt before each disciple to wash their feet. This was His room at the moment. He was their host. But, He did not ask anyone else to honor His disciples with the gift of foot washing. He took it upon Himself. He washed all their feet- even Judas who would lead the Temple guard to the Garden of Gethsemane to arrest Jesus and take Him to trial.

Sadly for Judas, he missed the humility part and ended his life not being lifted up but left hanging. Jesus, on the other hand, was lifted up but remaining humble even unto death.

1) He was accused, and perhaps even named, King of the Jews by both the Sanhedrin and the Roman authorities which is a form of being lifted up.

2) He was lifted up on the cross to die as a substitution for our own sins that we might have life.

3) He was lifted up in the arms of those who loved Him and sacrificed much to bring an honorable conclusion to His earthly life with anointing and burial.

4) He was lifted up by God His Father unto eternal life being restored to the right hand of the throne given all authority on earth as it is in Heaven.

But, hear the words of James, the brother of Jesus, who was writing to the mighty men of his congregation. The promise of being lifted up is ours as well. How? By being humble like Christ before God and man.

“Let HIM be seen in the mighty men of 2016.”

We do not go through this world alone whether we admit to it or not. The choice is who will be our companion and journey mate? The Holy Trinity of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit or Satan?
Three against one sounds like good odds to me! Choose God and the journey you are on will be bearable and successful.

HIS WORD for TODAY:

James 4.10

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

We can fight our battles alone. If we do we will find limited success and perhaps dire consequences in our thinking and our actions. We can think we possess enough knowledge and some accompanying wisdom to lead, guide and direct. But, in an every changing and multi-faceted world how will we ever know enough on our own? The strength of each mighty man of God is to be aligned with the greatest battler for humankind whose knowledge and wisdom cannot be surpassed- God. Oh, you thought I was going to say Jesus Christ? Well, in relation to the Trinity they would be One and the Same. But, speaking from the human perspective it would essentially be the same with a caveat.

As God, Jesus Christ is the greatest battler. He fought through temptations, humiliation, doubt and death to win our salvation and the opportunity to gain eternal life. His wisdom and knowledge is without question supreme. As man, Jesus Christ is the purest example for humanity on relying and calling on God to join in the fight and to share His knowledge and wisdom. Jesus never went alone except to dwell with God in prayer. He modeled teamwork physically, mentally and spiritually. He gave His followers the ethic and model of teaming as the means to accomplish God’s will in their lives. I am reminded of the old hymn “No, never alone. No, never alone. He promised never to leave me. No, never alone.” With the gift of the Holy Spirit and His body, the Church, we are supported, encouraged and empowered. With these, He is not only visible through us but living in us to dwell in the world until He comes again.
