YOUR Will be done in the year to come- 2014

HIS WORD for Today:

Psalm 56.3-4

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

Transitions in life can certainly be trying to our egos, our hearts and our spirits. What we need is confidence to face whatever stands before us. We can have confidence in ourselves believing in our gifts, talents and abilities; in fact, we should. But, if our confidence is based only on ourselves as mighty men then our strength will run its course and not be replenished except at the expense of other men. Our confidence instead should be in the Lord who is the provisioner of our gifts, talents and abilities. We are alive not because we have been born. We are alive because God breathed the Spirit of Life into us before we were born- He quickened us. At that moment we are His and He is ours. We cannot confess it with our tongues in the womb. We cannot think it with our minds in the womb. We live it without fear doing what God has decided should happen in our lives according to the Spirit- live.

The same should happen in our lives beyond the womb. We have the words to speak so we can speak praise and should. We can consider the facts of life and spirit in the world and know it is God who has done these things praising God and should. But, most of all we should live our lives according to the Spirit being confident not as mighty men but as mighty men of God. We then have nothing to fear from the world or from man. No weapon formed against us shall prevail. Our confidence, our hope, our trust is in the God of our Salvation. Moreoever, our lives are that of the Father who has placed His Living Holy Spirit in us and has blessed us with power, glory and dominion forever in Jesus’ name.

YOUR Will be done in the year to come- 2014

HIS WORD for Today:

2 Peter 3.8-9

“But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

Just imagine that in God’s time, Jesus died just two seconds ago. The whole world seemed to have stopped when my mother died. Oh, sure, there were telephone calls to be made, arrangements for the funeral and taking care of those everyday tasks that just didn’t seem to matter. But, it was like we were living in slow motion. I am sure that this is a similar description for all those who have lost someone they loved or who have had to bear witness the death of anyone. It changes our perspective. But, what about God? How do we think He took the news of the death of His own Son. He knew it was going to happen. He couldn’t stop it without stopping to be God. His Hand wanted to reach out but it must have trembled knowing that the time for Him to take His Son’s hand was “not yet.” While our world may be rocked; His whole universe was shaken and all that is in it. Heaven and earth were torn apart and came closing back in. In that dark night of Jesus’ soul on the cross had to be heart-breaking to God as well. And in the timing of God, it was just a few seconds ago.

Yes, our world rocketed on in its course around the sun. Day followed day, year after year, generation after generation but for God it could seem even closer than “just yesterday.” How life does seem to get in the way of what is truly important. Distance does not always make the heart grow fonder. We can lose sight and lose touch in that passage of time. The freshness can grow stale. We revisit it in worship or when we read God’s word or when tragedy strikes near to us from time to time. But, do we stop and think that He died for our sins just seconds ago? Can we still hear the driving of the nails through His wrists what seemed two thousand years ago but was just seconds ago? Can we hear the mother’s cry, the priests detest, the thieves’ rebuke pro and con and stark reality that it was for our sins that He died?

Yes, it may seem that God is slow to anger and slow to answer but can this spiritual perception of God’s time and we may gain some empathy and sympathy for where God is in putting His plan in action for our lives. It isn’t about being slow but giving Himself, us and all creation the time needed to do what is right and good for everyone. Yes, a lot has happened in this “short” span of time, but we haven’t seen anything yet of what God can and will do for His people who desire to be called by His name.

PRAYER CONCERNS: (Needs of God’s mighty men that will be answered out of faith, hope and love)

* For protection from flooding in those places praying for rain, a prayer which has been answered mightily
* For our government and budget to become balanced before the Lord; I pray for Jubilee!; and that our President withdraw the current healthcare plan in favor of one that God will provide as what is best for all His people.
* For those who are seeking to put an end to human trafficking that their success would be overwhelming so that the healing may be equally so
* For the violence to stop in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Turkey, North Korea and the Ukraine and the open roads for peace be made so that healing may begin and peace rules

ABIDING IN HIS PRESENCE THROUGH PRAYER:

Father, we do not want to hurry the end this morning because life seems to not be so bad. But, there have been those moments and days and seasons when we have cried out “Lord come now!” Grant us the patience and wisdom of Your Spirit to guide us in these days so Your Will be done in and through us to as many of Your children as we can reach in Jesus’ name. It is in His name we live, teach and pray. AMEN.

God may seem slow to answer, as He is slow to anger which is why He may be slow to answer, but God is never late. God’s timing is perfect because He can see the big picture with the greatest of details. His eye can focus on worlds and sparrows and all things inbetween. He knows everything there is to know as He moves His finger across our lives like a cursor across the screen activating pull down screens. God is able to do all things for and with those whose will seeks to be aligned with God’s will. I believe He is able to do many things to and through those whose will is doggedly aligned with everything that is against God’s will. It is the slowness to act, as perceived on our part, for those caught in that middle where black and white are poorly defined and gray takes over. And Jesus warned us through the teaching He gave to the Elder John for the seven churches of Asia Minor that we must be decidedly for or against but never happy with being middle of the road. Those things which are middle of the road only get in our way like blown truck tires weary of transporting their heavy loads strewn across the highway for others to dodge.

I know that God’s “delay” is really just the reality of His grace. When we watch a ballet dancer who is very skilled time seems to slow in our minds as we catch every movement. Its elegance and grace seem to cut through time transporting us to a place of peace and inspiration. What is time to God but the opportunity to bring more and more of His creation under His banner of love. Yes, it means for us who are “getting it” more time in this world. We become more vulnerable to the ravages of this world and the infection of sin. But, God is sufficient to meet our needs, to provide for our welfare and to supply us with what we need to do His will until our time to enter into His full presence arrives. We can, and many do, as the question of “why now” when we see tragic deaths of children, the elderly and those we love. We especially mourn with a lack of understanding when the death is tragic and violent upon the innocent. Some want to point to God and accuse Him of being unjust, unfair and uncaring. But, in reality, God’s deliverance for a life completed young or old or anywhere inbetween is God’s deliverance. We cannot determine God’s love and grace by the presence of worldly externals or the lack thereof. Instead, we can only let faith guide our thoughts and determinations so that His will can be done. And it will be done to the fullest measure of grace, glory and prosperity. Bear with God and let’s use this time wisely not to lavish our lives (God will take care of that for us) nor to mourn our lives (the world is fully equipped to enable our depression). Instead, bear with God and use this time, this extended time, given to us to do His will so that we can utter Jesus’ words on the cross with surety “It is finished, it is done. I surrender my spirit as I have surrendered my life into Your Hands.”

As a teacher and administrator, I have learned the key to success in the classroom is associating myself with other learners. The truth is manifested also when we get students to not only learn with other students in engaged learning events but also to teach. There is no doubt that the same best practice would be true in life. If we associate only with those who already know all they need to know with nothing else to learn then we learn nothing at all. We must associate ourselves with those who are learning, too. Now, don’t get me wrong, we need a Master Teacher and His name is Jesus. He continues to instruct us personally by the Holy Spirit who is our mentor and advocate for successful learning. But, if we pay close attention to what made Jesus a great teacher, beside the fact that He is Very God of Very God, we will find it is because He associated Himself with learners. We call them disciples; a circle of men and women whom Jesus called and who chose to follow His way of life as the way of life. They did learn from Him but not through the axioms, lessons and insight He shared. He challenged them with signs, wonders, parables and the hard realities of life. They didn’t always understand what He was saying or teaching. He left them to wonder, as some did upon His ascension to the right hand of God and the seat of righteousness. He left them to question things among themselves which they did often and found His teaching sometimes too hard to grasp. He left them with the charge to go into all the world and continue learning by teaching others even when they didn’t know all truth. But, of course, they knew the One who was the full embodiment of truth.

So, is it no surprise, mighty men, that in Peter’s teaching concerning the will of God for all men we would find the patience of God expressed because His will is that none should be lost. Now, I do not know what “none” represents because it could be “not one” or it could mean “not one of a group” or it could mean “not one of those whom He foreknew.” But, what I do see is that after Jesus had completed His ministry on earth climaxing with His resurrection, He inspired those followers to be teachers and students of the Word. If He didn’t believe in them He wouldn’t have given His Holy Spirit to them. If He didn’t, He wouldn’t have challenged them with the truth “greater things will you do than I have done” which I take to mean “spread the gospel of righteousness and salvation into all the world.” Jesus knew the truth about man- we learn best from other men. Kids who get the truth teaching other kids to get the truth. And God is patient with our efforts to get the Word out because He doesn’t want anyone to miss out on the benefits and blessings of His great love. Teach today, mighty men; teach something to someone else about what you have learned in His Word that makes your life better.

YOUR Will be done in the year to come- 2014

HIS WORD for Today:

1 John 3.3

“And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

Our true value does not come in things from this world. Our value is found in Christ alone. It is by Him alone that we are made worthy to walk in the presence of God. We give thanks to Him for the blessing of life and its fullness. His presence in our lives will purify our hearts to have right intentions, our minds to have right thinking and our lives to have right actions. When we remain in Christ and continue to be open to Him in living in us the miracle of faith, hope and love will continue to be manifested in us. Why would we want a life of any other value and measure?

Mighty men, I know you join with me in prayer for those who have served this country in the giving of their lives as members of the Armed Forces. It is a prayer of thanksgiving for the sacrifice made so that we can live in a country which, though not perfect, allows us to be able to worship God openly and gladly. We celebrate our freedom today in thanksgiving. We want to purify our hearts, mind and lives today by pausing to reflect on the image of those soldiers, men and women, and be humbled for the decision they made for us. We remember, too, the decision Jesus made for us to surrender His life that we might have life.

PRAYER CONCERNS: (Needs of God’s mighty men that will be answered out of faith, hope and love)

* Our heartfelt thanks for those who have served and are serving now in this nation’s Armed Forces; your decision to be a part of the protection of this country and to embolden the values of freedom around the world at the cost of your life humbles us
* For safe travels and activities over the Memorial Day weekend
* For our government and budget to become balanced before the Lord; I pray for Jubilee!; and that our President withdraw the current healthcare plan in favor of one that God will provide as what is best for all His people.
* For those who are seeking to put an end to human trafficking that their success would be overwhelming so that the healing may be equally so
* For the violence to stop in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Turkey, North Korea and the Ukraine and the open roads for peace be made so that healing may begin and peace rules

HIS WORD for Today:

1 John 3.3

“And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

In golf, for weekend golfers that is, it is called a mulligan. Some look at it as justified cheating, while others may look at it as grace. It is getting to hit a second shot because the first shot was bad. Wouldn’t it be awesome to life mulligans? How nice it would be to undo that bad first impression. Get a test back and it has a failing grade but you get to do the same test over with no penalty. What about the careless word spoken before it was considered? Wouldn’t you like to have it back again?

Well, we all have made mistakes in our lives. In truth, we can never get the opportunity back to redo as if it never happened in the first place. Truth be told, God’s grace is empowered by His ability to forget our past and focus on our future. Man’s grace is not quite that powerful. It can grant you forgiveness but once the dead is done it is done. It may not be remembered but it is rarely forgotten. This is another reason to be glad that this world is not our home. Can you imagine living a life where all our mistakes and the ensuing negative consequences were played over and over again and being left with no hope of forgiveness. That would be hell to me. How glad I am to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

In Him I have life covered by God’s grace and not man’s. In Him I have the blessing of my past not being dredged up again by the Judge of all Life so I can never be retried for my offenses. This is another thing John was talking about when he wrote, “The world does not know us because it does not know Him.” But, we know Him and He knows us. In fact, He knows us so well He loves us. How can He love us when He knows us; all about us? Because He sees the truth in us about who we really are and what intended and still intends for our lives. Jesus loves the God in us and God is pure, holy and overflowing with grace. If that is the case and we ask God to come into our lives then the same is true for us. What we must do is own up to our transformed reality. If you want to focus on the negative then our eyes can only see shadows at best. I say this because as long as we are in the world, so is Jesus. He is the Light of the World. Without light there can be no shadows. So, logically, even if we are focusing on the dark moments of our lives they will become shadows under the influence of the light we do not see. But, that same light is like a spiritual laser. It is a burst of energy that can eliminate the darkness in our lives and have it removed forever. When we accept Jesus as Savior our lives are carterized and healed. We may still bear the marks of our former life but we do not bear the chains of that life any longer.

We may not get do-overs in life but in Jesus Christ we get the opportunity to continue living, pursuing righteousness and loving one another as we are loved in mercy and grace.

YOUR Will be done in the year to come- 2014

HIS WORD for Today:

1 John 3.1-2

“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

One of the best questions I think I could ever be asked is “Why did you do that?” I have his habit of mowing yards beside my own. And I do it as a gift, unannounced. No, I don’t do backyards because I know that really infringes on privacy. But, generally it is the yards in my immediate neighborhood where I know it is the home of a widow, single parent or perhaps a family in serious distress. Taking one thing off of their “to do” list is my way of serving them. I do try not to do it when someone is home so that it is unknown as to who does it. But, there are times when someone else will see me doing it and they will ask “Why did you do that?” I tell them that it is a gift I am able to offer as a measure of God’s love and care. It has even turned into a great opportunity to witness to them about how Jesus Christ came into the world to serve others. They may not understand my reasoning for being obedient to God about mowing as a Christian service and testimony because they do not know about Jesus. They may not understand it because the picture and understanding they have of Jesus isn’t matching up to the one I am demonstrating. No matter, it is Jesus indeed. He shared with His disciples “The greatest among you shall be the servant of all.” It stands to reason that we can be misunderstood if Jesus hasn’t been revealed to them. But, in our service that is exactly what happens. And on the day of His triumphant return, hopefully fewer people will be surprised to see Him because more people will have believed in Him through our desire to be His followers, His disciples, His mighty men.

PRAYER CONCERNS: (Needs of God’s mighty men that will be answered out of faith, hope and love)

We know the brother of the prodigal son could not fathom the depth of his father’s will and determination to accept the once-foolish son back into his home. It is simply, as the Elder John writes similarly concerning God’s will for us, because he couldn’t fathom the depth of love that simply forgives the past and embraces the future. I pray you will grasp this picture with me, mighty men, that God’s love for us has been proven once and for all. In Jesus Christ, we have been forgiven. He became like us so that we might become like Him. This is God’s will for our lives. Consider even more that Jesus Christ wasn’t just like one of us; He was like all of us. No, I don’t mean like in the song sung by Alanis Morissette. Instead, I mean the Holy Spirit wants to create the picture in our heart, mind and soul of Jesus who bore the ultimate cross to Calvary. It was made of trillions, if not more, of tiny splinters each bearing our name. It was the cross of humanity which was lifted up on Golgotha’s hill and planted in the ground like a barren seed. That seed was watered by the blood of Christ and the tears of His Heavenly Father. But, even that would not be enough to bring new life. That cross represented death and not life. It was Jesus who represented both death and life. He bore the stripes of our sins. So horrible was His torture and abuse that He was recognizable only by the sign above His head which said “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.” He was recognized by those who believed in the one who bore the cross though their eyes were pained with the vision. He was disfigured, torn, bruised, pierced massively because He took on the penalty for all our sins including that moment when the mass of sin upon His spirit blinded Him to God. But, God was not blind to Him. He saw His Son and all of us. He loved His Son and all of us. He forgave His Son who was in that moment the image of sin and forgave us as well. He let His Son die so that sin would die- not the sin of His Son because He had not sinned but our sin. When Jesus breathed His last on earth, death’s rule lost its breath. And when God raised His Son from the dead and brought Him home, He opened the door of Heaven to us as well. This is how great a love God has for us. If He could love one so stained with the sins of the world then loving us who are stained with His love is a cinch. Rejoice, mighty men, there is more!

YOUR Will be done in the year to come- 2014

HIS WORD for Today:

1 John 5.14-15

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.”

REFLECTIONS ON HIS WORD:

We have studied on God’s will for our lives which begins at the very heart of our faith “love one another as God Himself has loved you, He whom you should love with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.” God’s will is not just to provide our daily bread supplying for accomplishing His Good Work which is sharing the Good News with the words of our mouths and the works of our hands. God’s will is not just to have our sins forgiven and the record of our past washed clean restoring us to the place of righteousness being set apart to be His children, friends and members of the priesthood of all believers. God’s will is that in the midst of all those things we understand He wants us to be together with Him for all eternity. There just has to be something about that particular fact that inspires confidence in us to be His mighty men. And, it is a fact of faith because we have the knowledge that Jesus of Nazareth died on the cross to atone for our sins and was buried in a tomb only to be released from the reality of death by our Father’s love for Him as He raised Him to newness of life the likes of which no man has ever experienced bearing the marks of the crucifixion and the glory of God simultaneously. His resurrection visitations were so powerful and tangible that many could not deny their truth and bore witness to it with great conviction of faith, hope and love. So great was their faith that they were able to receive the blessing of His Holy Spirit on their lives allowing them to proclaim this Good News of a great joy into all the world so that you, nearly two thousand years later, could hear it and experience Jesus for yourself. You, mighty men of God, are His witnesses to this generation. You are the bearers of His truth, His way and His life. Such trust ought to inspire confidence in you to walk by faith and not by sight; the kind of faith that moves the mountains of doubt and despair, devastation and disaster, hopelessness and horror, homelessness and humiliation and cast them into the sea of forgetfulness. But, not only can you move those mountains and displace the work of the Enemy, you can raise up in their place the mighty things of God which are evidenced by healing, restorations of family, revitalization of the environment, peace between enemies and the joy of miracles along with the perseverance and the ability to endure the trials until their are transformed to triumphs.

This is the confidence you should have mighty men because you know the dwelling place from which that confidence comes. It does not come in wishing it so. It does not come in your human efforts to establish yourself as important. It comes from the very heart and presence of Almighty God. You cannot be a mighty man if there is no mighty God. You cannot grasp eternity if there is no eternal. You cannot receive the bounty of life if there is no bounty to be given. You cannot have hope for this or any generation unless there is One who has fulfilled your hope already. And that has been done already in Jesus Christ, God’s Only begotten Son. And since God has done this already for you revealing the perfection of His Will to you then is there anything in His Will for you that cannot be done? I dare say not. Seek His will where it can be found- in His Word and in His Holy Spirit. Let your prayers be led by that knowledge of truth as it is being given to you and you will find your satisfaction transformed into joy, the joy of the Father who loves you mightily.

Will you join with me, mighty men, in prayer for those who refuse to have confidence that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, who died under the weight of our sins as the atonement price for our redemption and reconciliation back into the favor of God? I pray it troubles us all far more than enough to not only allow Christ to be seen in us, in our words and actions, but that the call to salvation will be vibrant in their presence and undeniable. Does it not bother you to know that there are those who refuse to believe in Jesus who is the Way, the Truth and the Life through whom is the only means of accessing eternal life in Heaven? I recognize the comment as Jesus was lifted up to Heaven there were still those who doubted. I know that in the Revelation to the Elder John that many refuse to accept Jesus as the Messiah and Savior of the world. I remember His teachings about the separating of the goats from the sheep, the wheat from the chaff which means there will be those who remain in darkness and for whom the Lake of Fire awaits. But, who that is remains a matter of God’s knowing. What His will imparts on us is the call to go into all the world to make disciples in the name of Jesus and to bring them into the body of Christ through teaching and baptism. Ours is to spread the Word, the Good News, which is the answer to someone’s prayer. We do not get to choose who we minister to. We get to choose to be God’s ministers to those who have need whether they know it or not in the moment. Ask Him to put you in the right place at the right time today with the intention of winning another to become a follower of Christ. Ask Him for the testimony that will lead them to accept Jesus as Christ and Lord. Ask Him for the anointing that will bless them irrevocably. This is His will and He will not deny it to you.
