Love one another deeply from the heart of Jesus in 2013!

Luke 23.44-46

“It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, ‘Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ When he had said this, He breathed His last.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

The scene of crucifixion was God’s depiction of His undeniable desire to bring salvation to all the world. Though His arms were stretched wide and held in place beyond His control, it was the result of His voluntary desire to prove for all time God’s sincere promise of love and redemption to all who would believe. The scene has certainly continued to challenge the wise, the questioning, the doubting and the Enemy. For the Jews throughout their history the Messiah was the Savior of their world. God had called them apart from all creation and made Himself manifest in their midst. Even though they became a remnant, dispersed and few in number throughout their history in Palestine due to their failure to keep His commands to love one another as He loved them and to love Him before all else, God did not lose sight of His promise to make of them a great nation. One way or another God was going to accomplish and fulfill that promise made to Abraham. Isn’t that the way it truly is with our lives and God? We pray for answers and deliverance. We have in mind exactly what we think it should look like, feel like and be like. Our preconceived notion may be based on informed experience and assumptions and we commit ourselves to it with little question. But, then the sinful world tends to get in the way of things and muddies the picture we had in mind. Before we have time to truly sort things out, God has worked the miracle and we find ourselves in a place of blessing. Why should we be amazed? God is the author and creator of our salvation. In Him we should place our hope, faith and trust.

As so it became revealed in the eyes of Israel, its rulers and its captors, its saints and its sinners, that God was making good on His promise to redeem Israel and bring the peace of His Kingdom to bear upon the earth. They thought, and some feared, that it would be with a single ruler of their own image much like Saul in the days before David who became king because of the hardness of the people’s hearts. They looked to a warrior-priest who would rule over heaven and earth, flesh and spirit. Such a disappoint was Saul. And how the people rallied with David the giant killer (Saul was a giant as well if you stop to think about it.) But, David was a sinful man and though his efforts to bring peace to the Promised Land and people of God were extensive and mostly successful it did not last. Even Solomon, David’s son, in all his wisdom could not establish such a kingdom that would fulfill the promise God made with His people. That is because man cannot fulfill God’s promise; they hardly can fulfill their own promises. Only God can fulfill His promise! And in Jesus Christ, descended from Heaven and rising up out of the line of David, God did exactly that. But, it certainly wasn’t what the people thought it would be like. Jesus was not a warrior-priest-king as they imagined and pressed Him to be; even among His own disciples. He was a servant-shepherd who put His life on the line with a rod and a staff in order to fend off the true enemy of humanity which is sin and death. His life was traded for our lives. He suffered death on the cross so that we might receive the promise of life in abundance and for eternity. But, there was another difference we must see at the cross. God’s promise was to Israel and that promise will be fulfilled on the day of Christ’s return as to the specific people and nation. But, God redefined His chosen people to include all those who are not Jewish, not ritually pure, not holy and descended from royalty. On the cross we find Jesus’ arms stretched out wide to embrace the entire world and not just some. He could not refuse to extend the invitation. He bore in on Calvary so that we might bear it in eternity. He would not refuse the cross for our sake. He refused to come down from the cross to embrace the few as many taunted Him to do. Why? Because Jesus is not just King of Israel. Jesus is the King of the World that extends throughout the Kingdom of His Heavenly Father. God did not want just some of the people and some of the world to be at peace. He wants the entire creation of His Hand to know peace. With arms opened wide and no means to stop the giving of the invitation to come and believe Jesus was lifted up before Heaven and earth. As God’s mighty men, our arms should be extended as wide to embrace Christ and those He loves. Yes, there should be no nails in our wrists and ropes tied to us to keep our arms open. Our heart filled with thanksgiving and gratitude for God’s mercy and love should cause us to refuse to pull our arms in and deny others the joy of their salvation and the fellowship of kindred spirit where the true Israel, the people of the Old and the New Covenant, can share for all eternity in the fullness of God’s revelation of His promise known to us in Jesus the Christ.

The scene of crucifixion was not pleasant. Its image should be engraved on the heart and mind of every mighty men of God. When they think upon it they should shudder as chills race through their body seeing how much Jesus suffered on the cross so that we might have eternal life and salvation. But, we must not turn our eyes away from the scene either. We must keep it in mind as we enter into worship, praise and service. It was with outstretched arms that Jesus elevated between Heaven and His Father and Earth and His family. If, as many consider, the nails were pressed into His wrists between the ulna and the radii to create a hook for hanging if you wish, then Jesus hands were free to be open with palms turned upward to God. He lifted up His praise to Heaven as the fragrant offering given to God on our behalf. But, the searing heat of the muscles and tendons as they expended the last vestiges of energy in His body to hold Him up must have felt like burning coals in His palms. Yet, Jesus would have refused to surrender to the pain of worship and praise. It was worth all His efforts to honor God and to lift His petition for us to His Heavenly Father. Instead of “raising the roof,” He may have been holding back the wrath of God who could have easily rained down judgment on the people of the earth with fire as He had with water in the days of Noah. But, Jesus held it back just as He refused to answer the taunts of the impenitent thief and the doubting temple leaders who said “If you are the Son of God, let yourself done.” He could have well called for the angel army to come to His aid but instead He lead the angel chorus to declare as they had at His birth “Glory to God in the Highest, on Earth let there be peace and goodwill toward all men.” Jesus declared, “Father, forgive them.”

How do our palms feel as we worship? Do we enjoy the freedom afforded us in Christ to worship with thanksgiving and praise? Do we think upon the ease with which we lift up our arms and hands and spirits to God? They do not have to carry the weight of our lives to the cross because Jesus loved us and loves us still. Nor do they have to carry our weight on the cross because Jesus has taken the yoke upon Himself for our account. Do we feel the coolness of God’s breath across our palms as the Holy Spirit moves around us? Do we feel the healing warmth of His presence as He presses His hands into ours?

I pray, mighty men of God, that you will see and feel differently, if not differently then more intensely, as you lift your hands in praise.

I pray, mighty men of God, that you will consider well the joy of your salvation which came fully and completely at the hand of the Master craftsman who is now shaping Heaven so that you have a place with Him forever in His Father’s Kingdom.

I pray, mighty men of God, that as you lift up your hands to almighty God in worship and thanksgiving, you feeling the fainting of your spirit as it recognizes that except for His grace you would not be able to enjoy the fullness of God’s blessing in that moment. For, in that moment with His hands turned to God He confessed that only then could the true blessing of God be known as the work for our salvation was complete and finished. With His own Hands He offered up His Spirit to God and surrendered the last bit of energy left in His body as a gift to His Father. That gift was YOU!

Inspired again by worship as we lifted our hands to God in praise, I was impacted by the image of our children reaching up to us as their parents. Sometimes it was to be loved, included, protected or just to be held. In each of those times, we bent down and picked them up answering their non-verbal request of reaching up by reaching down.

In Jesus Christ, we know that God has reached down to us as well. He does not reach down only when we praise Him and give us a high five in response to our uplifted hands. He reaches down to capture our hands and pull us up out of the mirey clay of doubt, defeat and demoralization. He reaches down to touch us with blessings of love and favor putting His hand on our heads and hearts. He reaches down to encourage us and patting our backs to move us forward. He reaches down to support us when we grow weary and feel like falling over to prop us up and breathe into us with new life.

Recognize, mighty men of God, that it is in reaching up that God delights in reaching down. In Christ, God reaches out to us just as He reached out to the thieves on either side and to His mother and beloved disciple at the foot of the cross. The image is real and begs our attention to it which I feel compelled by the Spirit to dwell on to guide my study of HIS WORD for Today. Reach up and out today to God, Christ and man and celebrate life!

Romans 11.30-32

“Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may nmow receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you. For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that He may have mercy on them all.'”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Mighty men, take heart. Our purpose is to share the love of God to all so that they will desire to seek God’s mercy over their lives. Not only have we all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, but we all fall under the covenant of grace. Does this mean that all men will be saved? In fact, aren’t all men saved since Jesus died for the sins of all men? It may be akin to all students in a classroom starting with a grade of 100 on the first day of school. Whether they end up with a passing grade by the end of the year is up to them. It is by their effort to put forward honest effort and seek the refining of their knowledge and skills that is assessed as being a successful student. Isn’t it also by the grace of the teacher, too, that motivates and maintains the student’s effort throughout their education journey? So, it is with our spiritual journey. Because of the love of God in Jesus Christ we have, through His death and resurrection, received the forgiveness of our sins. However, if we do not confess them and seek to move beyond their destructive effect on our lives and others; if we do not trust the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, strength and mind and walk humbly with Him and before Him; if we do not share the good news of such great joy, then we cannot enjoy the fullness of the salvation which is ours by the mercy of God.

In other words, mighty brothers of faith and hope and love, though the work of Christ has been done in us and over us through God’s mercy even on Him by raising Him from the clutches of death which is the result of our sin, our pursuit of salvation is not. We must come to Him in humility and honesty confessing our need before Him so that we might receive the full benefit of the gift of grace that is ours in Him. So, while all may be saved, as it pertains to the work of Christ, not all will receive the joy of their salvation if they do not avail themselves of it. God’s desire is to have mercy on all His children. How His heart must break when there are those who refuse it. Do not be mistaken, God was not filled with joy to cast down Satan and those who followed him. It must have grieved Him mightily just as it will grieve Him when Jesus must finally and ultimately cast them into the Lake of Fire and locked out for all eternity in an inescapable hell. It is true that many will continue to reject God’s love but it cannot be because of our efforts to share this hope with them. We must be committed to the calling at hand- share the message of God’s love so that they can receive the benefit of His act of mercy in Jesus Christ and by faith in Him enjoy eternal life!

Romans 10.17

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ.'”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Drum roll, please. And the “Message” is? All who call on the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ, shall be saved. There is no other message in the world than can mean as much and do as much as this. Only in and through Jesus Christ can any man enter eternal life and be rest assured of his place in Heaven. There is no other way to know the true fullness in one’s life than to be a follower of Jesus Christ. And what does it take? It takes faith. It takes faith to put aside the promises of the world which we can see with evidence and embrace the promise of the Kingdom which we have not seen. But, isn’t there evidence of that Kingdom here on earth, too? Jesus declared that the Kingdom of God is in the midst of us. We have seen its miraculous power change lives through healing and restoration. We have seen hope given back to those who believed it had been lost. We have felt its dynamism flowing through our spiritual veins as the Word of God is celebrated in worship and praise. But, imagine, if you will, that what we are experiencing is only the result of consequence of the Kingdom in part and not yet in its full expression. For with faith the size of a mustard seed, as our Lord taught, we could move mountains to the sea and raise them up again from a flat plain. I have seen the figurative mountains in life moved and known that awesome presence of the Lord. But, I have not seen the literal mountain moved. Does it mean that it cannot happen? Of course not. It means that all the good works we have seen since the resurrection of Christ have been born out of a faith that is less than a mustard seed. Even that comes by hearing and receiving the word of God which is for all men.

So, what does this say to the mighty men of God? We need to spread the good news of Jesus Christ and start putting our faith seeds together. There are mountains to move and valleys to fill in life. We cannot do this on our own but with faith in Christ Jesus can do all things which God has planned and prepared for us to do. What is the biggest mountain and deepest valley to challenge? Is it not the mountain of sin and the valley of death? We are about life as mighty men of God and our God is a God of the living and not the dead. Keep hold on your faith and share the message that is so sweet to hear and to speak. God’s mighty men are to be the movers and shakers in the Kingdom of God on earth! Let’s rock!

Love one another deeply from the heart of Jesus in 2013!

Romans 10.12-13

“For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile- the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him, for ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

In Christ there is no slave or free, Jew or Gentile, male or female because these are externals; differentiations that the eye of man can make or at least assume he can make. But, the eyes of Jesus penetrate to the heart, mind and soul of man where the only difference that exists between any two people is whether they have accepted Him as Lord and Savior or not. Notice that I do not say that He sees a “saint versus sinner” difference? Does the Word of God not declare “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”? Yes, even the mighty men of God are, in truth, sinners. We are recovering sinners blessed by the grace of God with the opportunity for new life in Jesus Christ. We are wiser sinners because the influence of the Holy Spirit which is given to us by Christ instructs and challenges our thought process so that our future decisions will reflect godliness instead of worldliness. Are we perfect in our attempts to live sin free? By no means. We are not different from the disciples who walked with Jesus, saw His works, heard His message and still did not pick up on everything He said. In fact, by the time we get to that high place in Galilee where Jesus would ascend into Heaven before our very eyes some of us would still be doubting. No one said it would be easy living in this world where such a mortal combat would be taking place. But, Jesus did promise that when we pray in His name what we ask for [according to His Word] shall be granted to us.

But, I digress from His Word for today and must reclaim for our hearing that we, too, should see no difference between anyone except at the soul level. The outwardness of a man is a reflection of the inwardness of that same man. If there is trouble or distinction manifested in the life of the man visible to the eyes of the world then we must look deeper and pray for mercy and healing in their soul. We all are captives, or have been, because Satan used the Law of God to bind us with a lack of understanding. We stumbled and fell short of our goal and His expectation because we had been led to believe that God no longer cared and was absent to our lives. Left to our own demise we fail regardless of our success because earthly success without God remains a product of sinfulness that has elevated man above all else. But, in Jesus Christ, God has proven and established the covenant of His presence in the very midst of us. His love is sufficient to meet all our needs. When we call upon Him and allow ourselves to be called by Him then the fruits of salvation are ours and we will not thirst nor hunger any longer for righteousness.

So remember, mighty men of God, reveal your heart, mind, soul and spirit to the world as the means of sharing God’s faith, hope and love with the world so they can see there is a difference and what a difference Jesus Christ can make in their lives. In their name call on His name so they, too, can be saved.

Love one another deeply from the heart of Jesus in 2013!

Romans 10.10-11

“For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, ‘Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.'”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Jesus is the cornerstone of our righteousness. Righteousness is a way of life not just a state of being. It is not a fixed moment in time but a living and thriving reality that can know no end. We know that Jesus is the rock which the builders rejected. Yet, God raised up that stone which was buried and set it in its place. Righteousness was justified and from it grew the body of Christ on earth, the Church. Isaiah declared that God was putting a tested stone in the midst of Jerusalem and those who put their trust in it would be justified. He did not stop at thinking about it. He did not stop at listening to it in his heart, mind and soul. He proclaimed it in a mighty word meant to embolden the nation of Israel against the enemy which sought to consume it. So, too, must we as mighty men of God step away from our mere contemplations and good thoughts and begin the journey of proclamation that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. We must declare with out words the ownership we have of being one in Christ and the ownership which Jesus Christ has over us. We are fitted as righteous stones into place aligned with Jesus Christ our cornerstone. We are being built up into the full measure of the stature of Christ, the New Temple and dwelling place of God on earth. Together with one voice we will cause of all nations to pay attention to the Word, Jesus Christ, and the Will, Salvation of all men, of God. We will not just be a light set on a hill, a light which the darkness cannot overcome. We will become a voice to the nations sounding across the airwaves in conversation, in teaching, in preaching, in broadcasts which the din of sin cannot mute. Will there be challenges? No doubt! But, in the end the voice of God which called forth the creation of the universe and all that is in it will be the next to last voice speaking saying “Well done my good and faithful servants.” The last voice will be heaven and earth declaring “Amen and Amen.”

Love one another deeply from the heart of Jesus in 2013!

Romans 10.9

“That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

What is the work of righteousness which we can do? Yes, the work of righteousness is to declare the glory of God who sent His Son into the world putting on the very flesh of our flesh but living by the Spirit. What was His purpose in doing so? He sent His Son into the world to show how God had designed our lives to be lived and then made it possible for us to be reconciled to Him so that we could put into action the grace of God which He has made known. If that is our work of righteousness, then what is our righteousness? Is our righteousness not Christ alone our cornerstone? Our righteousness is Christ who has made Himself one with us by coming to earth as Messiah and Son of God and making us one with Him in spirit and in truth through obedience to death being raised from the dead by God alone. It was not Christ who did this but God. Christ acted in obedience even unto death so that in obedience we will never die. I am not speaking of a literal death for even our Lord suffered in this way for our sake. And it is true that some will not see this death but that, like Jesus taught Peter about John, is not our business but God’s. So, then, salvation is ours as the righteous work of God in Christ for us. It is a gift created by God to be shared with those who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. It is offered to all the world but not all the world will see it as valuable, possible and truly available. Only those who will believe in their heart and proclaim it by word and deed can know the true reality of salvation.

It is in this vein of thinking that we must embrace “once saved always saved.” Salvation is not a moment in our life such as baptism but a daily life of the baptized believer living as if they are in the midst of the Kingdom of God because they are. Once we recognize our salvation then we must live in gratitude toward God a life worthy of our calling as mighty men of God. It does not mean that we will perfectly do so for Christ alone has demonstrated perfection of heart, mind, soul and spirit. But it does mean that we will live in the perfection which Christ has wrought which is salvation- the forgiveness of sins, the remission of our trespasses and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Now you, mighty men of God, are the gift of God to the world. You celebrate your Oneness with God in Christ Jesus and in Him alone. You do so not to lift yourself up over men but that Christ be lifted up before all men so they may come to know the joy of their salvation which God desires to give them.

Love one another deeply from the heart of Jesus in 2013!

Romans 10.4

“Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Did Christ mean that since He had come into the world there was no need for laws anymore? I dare say not. We, as mighty men of God, are governed by God’s laws of faith, hope and love. Against these laws there can be no greater. Those who abide by these laws will recognize that only by them can we have life and have it abundantly. Will we still transgress the law of God and the way of life which is measured by the Ten Commandments? Sadly, we will have that fatal flaw regardless of our desire to be good and do good in Jesus’ name. Will the frequency of our transgressions diminish? Absolutely, as we abide more and more in the laws of God which are faith, hope and love then we shall see a true transformation in our lives. But, only in Jesus Christ and Him crucified so that we would be free from the penalty of the law which is death, will we have the true transformation of our heart, mind, soul and strength and dwell more confidently as new creations in the sight of God and of man.

So what then can it mean when Paul declared that “Christ is the end of the law.” Could it not mean He is the conclusion of the law? What is the conclusion for those who keep the standard of the law? Does it need insist that there is peace and prosperity in the life of that man? Does it not provide the same if the people or the nation will follow the laws as well? Yes, Jesus did die on the cross. For all that He was and did, it was the will of the lawless ones which seemed to have won the battle. But, thank God that the war was won and there was victory over death. The result of the law is the preservation of life. If then Jesus Christ is the “end” of the law then we certainly see that He is the preservation of life for all those who will believe and abide by these laws which are gifts from our Heavenly Father. If Jesus is the result then we who follow after Him are the consequences- the fruit of His labor. Indeed, we are! The law of sin has no hold on us. It certainly will continue to make its presence known in and around our lives. As long as the Fallen Light who now is the Prince of Darkness, no longer the ruler of earth having been deposed by the King of Kings in His triumphant rise to the cross and from the grave, is allowed to wander across the earth like a ravenous lion waiting to feed on the lost, the destitute, the doubting, the confused, the sick and the hopeless- then sin will remain. But, in Christ Jesus, that sting of death and its taunt for the hope of victory is removed and quickly silenced! We may be wounded as our Lord was wounded for our transgressions but it will not stop us from being like Him in spirit and in truth.

So, Jesus is the “end” of the law. He is the finished product. There is nothing else beyond Him. He is the conclusion of life as He is its beginning. He is the Alpha and the Omega. There is nothing greater than He but God alone and He is ours! Thus, He is the first word and the last. And fortunately, He desires to speak on our behalf before our accuser, Satan, and our Father, God. Why should we want anyone else to speak for us or about us? And as we remember He is the Last Word beyond which there can be no other Word, then our future is in good hands as is our present. So, do not worry, mighty men of God. Live confidently and rejoice because righteousness is ours in Him who has made it sure that we are His now and forevermore.

Romans 10.4

“Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

The mighty man of God should rejoice that in His infinite wisdom and almighty love there has been made a way for us to be called righteous and welcomed into the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in Heaven during our earthly lives and into the Kingdom of God in Heaven forever when this life has run it fullest course. Salvation and mercy are beyond the control of the law. No person can be mandated out of the Kingdom if they will only believe that Jesus is their Christ, the Son of their Living God and their personal Lord and Savior. There is no law on earth, under the earth nor beyond the earth that can stop God’s love from saving those who He loves who will believe in Him, on Him and with Him. Only in the hardness of mens’ hearts, and of those fallen angels, can there is exist no opportunity for eternal life and the joy of His eternal love…unless they, too, will change their own minds and repent of their sinfulness and seek God as their only reality.
