Love one another deeply from the heart of Jesus in 2013!

Colossians 3.24

“Know you will receive your inheritance from the Lord as your reward for doing “heart” work because it is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Being encouraged, mighty men, when you are at work and struggling with a client or co-worker or supervisor- it is the Lord Christ you are serving at all times and in all things. Yesterday we were urged to look above and beyond the human realm in the workplace and see Jesus who has oversight over all we do. To remember to see Jesus in those we serve and work for is vital and necessary as it helps to shape our actions into works and labors of love. But, we must commit ourselves to high expectations and there are none higher than those which are from God and those given to God. Do we have low expectations that fall short of the glorious intent of God in the world? Yes, we do! There are times when we lower our sights to what can be achieved because it is possible. If it were possible then why do we struggle with it and against it? Why are we striving with co-workers, clients and supervisors? Are we convincing ourselves we are in impossible situations? Does His Word not declare that all things are possible with those who trust in the Lord and commit their ways to Him? Are not His ways better than ours? Are not His thoughts better than ours? Are not His means better than ours? Of course they are but that does not mean they cannot be our ways, thoughts and means!

Did I hear you consider the question “How can that transformation happen?” Did the anxiety and doubt rise up for a brief moment in your heart, mind or spirit? It does in mine because I am not yet fully transformed by the renewal of my mind. I am not fully surrendered to His will. I am still a cloudy vision in the mirror of life but one day it will all become clear and when I look at that reflection I will see Jesus! Praise God for the day when the two of us shall become as one! And, I believe, that is the key to our transformation. I am sorry, did you miss it? The key to our transformation is praising God from whom all our blessing flow. Praise Him above, heavenly hosts, and all of you on earth below. If we generate the mentality of worship as service (which is the root of the word) and serve others as if we are worshipping God then we begin to move toward that true sense of becoming one, experiencing success, activating our inheritance in the natural which will look to be supernatural to those who have not yet reached that level of understanding. Mighty men are called to serve God alone, worship God alone. If that is the case then we cannot be out of purpose when we serve others if we worship with them the Lord God who have saved us through our Lord Jesus. Praise the Lord!

Colossians 3.23

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you kow that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Who do the mighty men of God work for? Who is the real head of their industry, business, work and vocation? Is it not Jesus Christ who is the Lord of lords, Captain of all industry, Chief Executive Officer of all businesses (surprise Jerry Jones), Manager of all work places and Mentor of all vocations? Of course it is, but how many people really recognize His place in their work? It must begin at the top so that the blessing saturates all workers and co-workers like holy oil flowing down the head and beard of Aaron. That doesn’t mean that those at the lower levels cannot lead the spiritual revitalization of the company they work for. Quite the opposite, all companies built upon the foundation of mighty men has the greatest potential for success. But, I am saying that until the leadership understands who they are truly working for the potential for true success cannot be reached. I am not saying that we should look at our bosses as if they were Jesus Christ but we should treat them with Christ-like obedience and faithfulness through prayer and hard work hearing Jesus’ words “As you have done it for the least of these you have done it for Me.” Instead, whether things are going well or not, we should look above and beyond and see if Jesus is still in His “big chair.” Is Jesus in His place where you work? Are you envisioning His leadership being spoken through others as well as yourself by His Holy Spirit? Are you weighing your actions with biblical and prayerful inspirations? Are you faithful to your first commission which is “Go and make disciples everywhere”? Are you loyal to your first command which is “Love the Lord your God and your neighbor as yourself”? If you have not and are not, then check your own relationship with Christ first because He writes the last check you will ever receive and it is the biggest!

Colossians 4.2

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Those who practice saying the Lord’s Prayer are often faced with the criticism of just praying a rote prayer. I suppose saying anything from rote memory could give the appearance of a lack of true feeling. Is the Lord’s prayer or a meal prayer or any scripted prayer one that is just words? The opportunity to just say prayers is real and there are times when we say them because we have no other resource or feeling left. Have you had times when that known and practiced prayer was the last resource you had left in dealing with a problem? Was it the prayer that was the last resource or was it the hope in a God who hears our prayers regardless of our outward emotion or motivation? How often have I made it through a day by just going through the motions? So, is it wrong?

The measure of right and wrong is a matter of intention and purpose. If you are trying to appear righteous because you can utter prayers then it may be wrong. If you are trying to survive and you are at a loss for words then it can never be wrong. Doing something, anything, over and over again does not make it bad. But, remember Einstein’s definition of insanity as being the doing of something the say way expecting a different outcome. So, isn’t it a matter of what you meant when you went into the practiced prayer (or some other activity) that determines how you come out? Paul urges the mighty men of Colossae to be devoted to prayer being “watchful and thankful.”

Watchful meant two things: 1) to be aware of those who are seeing you pray which indicates a checking of your intentions for prayer as in the teaching of Jesus to the disciples about praying like the Pharisees; and 2) to be in anticipation of God’s movement through prayer to effect the change that is sought by your prayer showing a willingness to remain hopeful knowing that God hears and answers prayer.

Thankful is an indication of two things as well: 1) a sign of joy knowing that God is not absent but present in all our prayers ready to commune and communicate with us so that we become the mighty man we intend and He desires; and 2) a sign of faithfulness drawn from the well of satisfaction in advance for what God will do in ministering to us and through us via prayer because being thankful for what has happened and what will happen tells God (and others) I am confident that through Christ all things are possible.

Matthew 12.50

“Whoever does the will of My Father in Heaven is my brother, sister and mother- they are my family.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

OUR “PRODIGAL” INHERITANCE-

I hope that it doesn’t take a lot of explanation for the truth of these words from Jesus to make sense to you. Alienation and isolation are the tools of the enemy to breakdown the body of Christ. When the Apostle Paul taught the mighty men in Corinth about what it meant to be a part of the body of Christ which Christ as the head of the body he had to address the need for unity and harmony. The congregation of Corinth was broken into factions each with a different head. Some would say Paul or Peter or Aquilla and I am sure the list would have gone on longer than that. The truth was and is and will always be there can only be one head and that is Jesus Christ for the Church as the body of Christ. So, then the discussion must have spun out as to whose definition and understanding of Christ was superior so it became a battle of versions or denominations; as Paul addressed it- a party spirit. It was fine to have Jesus as the head of the body as long as those of the body believed it was this man or that man’s interpretation of who Jesus was. Does this sound familiar? Such rancor is rampant in the world and has been since the first days of humanity. Even Satan wanted to dispute who was in charge and the true head of state.

What was Jesus’ response to such thinking? Those who are obedient to God’s will for their lives belong to the family of God. What was God’s will? Was it the Law? Prophets? Scribal interpretation? Pharisaical? Humanism? No, God’s will is that all people on earth recognize that Jesus was His Son and their Christ. He wanted them to believe in Him with all their heart, soul, mind and strength and to love their neighbors as they themselves were loved by God. How were they loved by God? Their lives were saved by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus the Christ on the cross, in whom they believed in life, death and resurrection. If they obeyed His teachings and accepted the call to serve others before themselves, then they were heirs of the kingdom and a welcome member of the family of God on earth as they would be in Heaven.

What the mighty men of God receive as part of their inheritance is that family of God where they will never be alone, isolated, shunned, forgotten, ignored, abused and forsaken. If we could inherit anything as children of the earth, I believe the inheritance of an eternal family would be very high on the list. Thank God, it is high on His list as well.

Matthew 10.1

“Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out and to heal every kind of disease and sickness.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

OUR “PRODIGAL” INHERITANCE-

As the adopted sons of God because of the gift of life through Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, we are more than sons of God, we are princes of peace, emirs of empathy, sultans of sympathy, kings of kindness, rulers of righteousness, dukes of determination and lords of lovingkindness. Can you imagine that your life could have changed this much? One day you are a man of the world and the next day you have been invested with the inheritance of authority. But, it is not the authority to rule over men as men of the world do. Instead, it is the authority to overrule unrighteousness, sinfulness, deceit, disease, manifestations of evil, ignorance, guilt and shame in the world. Yes, once you were ruled over by these victimizers of the enemy of God and man. Yours lives seemed like pawns in the hands of those whose sole purpose was to keep you nullified. There was no hope for advancement or release. You were captives to a taskmaster whose hope was to maintain your service to the doldrums of tedious and meaningless work. But, now you are delivered from the captor’s snare and set over it as ones in and of Christ in and apart from the world. You are a member of the royal priesthood of God after the order of Jesus Christ. Your authority is not to command men to do your bidding but to command their freedom so they can fulfill the will of God meant for their lives. You are a mighty man of God. Use your authority for the glory of God as it is not your right, privilege and responsibility as sons of the Most High.

Psalm 23.6

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

OUR “PRODIGAL” INHERITANCE-

The need to “belong” is followed by the need for “security.” When we profess that Jesus is the Christ the doors of the kingdom are thrown open wide to us as a father with open arms welcomes a child home after a long journey. In Jesus, we belong to the Father! But, the haunting fear is “for how long?” As God’s mighty men, we do not live conditionally fearing that God will reject us. His reproof of our moments of weakness is not a rejection of us. He knows us and understands where we are yet weak. He provides us with a sense of security that we will belong to Him forever and be with Him forever. That provision is not a signing off of us going then back into the world to live the old life saying “See you later, Dad.” We did that once before and found our utter demise and struggle against the wiles of the world and the powers of presumption. We do not need to go out and seek who we are. God came into our lives through Jesus Christ so that we could know who we are. We are who we are meant to be in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is the sign to us of our security in faith that God will not forsake us, stop loving us or stop wanting us.

Admit it, once you have visited the Father in His house filled with peace, love, joy, happiness and abundance why do you want to go back to the way it was. God promises us the promised land and a joyous future. The world promises us a burdened past that has no future. We belong to God forever. We are His and He is ours. As David sang, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.”

1 Peter 1.3-4

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade- kept in heaven for you.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

OUR “PRODIGAL” INHERITANCE-

What an indescribable joy awaits those who will understand how rich they are in Christ Jesus. Our full inheritance has been invested into the “bank and trust” of Heaven. It is accruing God’s interest and ours daily. It is being built up into maturity of blessings beyond our imagination but not beyond our hope. Because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are able to draw upon the current balance of God’s mercy and grace so that we may serve Him well during our remaining time on earth. But, how do we withdraw from this account you ask. Current culture gives us an illustration called a debit card. In our spiritual awareness let’s call it our “Debt Card” except in this case we are not drawing from our debts (that is what this country does) but we draw upon the “prodigal inheritance” (which has been set up for us by our loving Father.) There are no penalties for withdrawal not even for an early withdrawal as we learned from the story of the Prodigal Son. Instead, the Father continues to make deposits of mercy and grace into our account because He loves us. We come carrying our “debt card” which now symbolizes contrition, humility and the recognition of our sinfulness and our uniqueness. Why do I say unique? We are unique because we are different from all other people and from God. There is no sense to attempting to be like others or to be like God because all efforts to do so will result in failure. However, we are to be Christlike (we cannot be Christ but like Christ is in our spiritual ability).

What does it mean to be Christlike? It means that we come to the Father asking for a portion of our inheritance of mercy and grace through repentance and the seeking of forgiveness recognizing that all we cannot do God can when it comes to loving and serving the needs of others. God sees our heart and mind, spirit and soul, and knows when we are sincere. He provides for our needs and in gratitude for our willingness to come to Him, He invests a little more into us so that we are more capable and powerful and willing to do more. A portion of the inheritance which God shares with us is the right and privilege to return to the Father. We have the pass card of Jesus Christ and the pass code of a contrite and willing heart. When we ask for forgiveness of our debts, He grants them and restores us to newness. He watches as we rejoice and dip into our account to forgive the debts of others. This is what Jesus did when He died on the cross for us. He reached into His eternal account and paid off all our debts. But, remember, He was only able to do this when He came before God and declared “I have done everything I can do but there is one more thing which needs to be done that I cannot do.” Even Jesus depended upon His Father’s mercy and grace to accomplish all that He did. That is what is means to be Christlike and in our Christlikeness we are able to gain access to our inheritance invested in Heaven so that others will be able to do so as well.

John 14.15-17a

“If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever- the Spirit of truth.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

OUR “PRODIGAL” INHERITANCE-

It took a while before the prodigal son came around to the truth. He already had the inheritance his father gave him. Notice, the son received the inheritance before the father’s death. It was a gift shared out of the father’s love for the son. What the son had asked of his father was given. Even though the earthly son squandered the material portion of the inheritance and found himself in the company of pigs (read unclean animals), the inheritance of the spirit of truth had already been deeply invested and sowed into his life. When all his efforts to live life to the fullest had been expended, he was left with only one resource. That resource was the spirit of truth which grabbed his conscious awareness and spoke truth- get back to your father.

Jesus longed for that same reality. Yes, His life was not a squandering of the inheritance. In fact, Jesus had left heavenly riches behind so that He could walk with His earthly brothers and become a voice of truth. What was His message? Repent and return to the Father who loves you and is ready for you to come home to Him forever. Isn’t that the real truth? And for that word to be continually spoken into our lives, Jesus then traded His life for the Holy Spirit. With His life He imprinted the word of truth on our hearts and its abiding spiritual presence in our minds. With His death he sealed the covenant relationship between man and God. In essence He was telling God, whatever You do to those who bear My name You will be doing it for me. He told His lost brother Lucifer the same by the way. Rejoice, mighty men of God, we are in a win/win situation because we have received the Spirit of truth as a part of our inheritance. No matter where we go now, God is there. He always was but now we are aware of it just as the prodigal son became aware of it. His old way of thinking died in the pig sty and he was made knew by the father who always loved him. He was restored to his rightful place just as Jesus was restored to the right hand of God. He was able to stand tall and walk confidantly because he was truly rich- he had the spirit of the father’s love in him.

So, do you, mighty men of God and there is no greater treasure than this!

Love one another deeply from the heart of Jesus in 2013!

John 3.16

“For God so loves the world that He gave us His only begotten Son and whosoever believes in Him shall have life in eternal abundance.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

OUR “PRODIGAL” INHERITANCE-

When we woke up this morning following a three-day weekend (at least for a great number of Americans) did we think that our lives had about as much in them as they could handle? Did we rue the morning contemplating a return to the regular routine of work? Was there a point during the weekend when we said to ourselves “I have really had enough!” I know this is not what God meant when He promised us a full, eternal and abundant life when we accept the walk of Christ as our own. Yet, as mighty men of God, it is our challenge to not see the glass half-empty or half-full but as David wrote “my cup runneth over!” We cannot allow ourselves to believe life is either coming or going (that is one interpretation of half-full or half-empty). Instead, we must give thanks to God continually that our life of faith may resemble more of the Energizer bunny walking to the beat of a different drummer that keeps going and going and going. What God has provisioned us with is an inheritance without diminishing returns. If we invest it wisely into the world for the glory of God our lives actually increase exponentially. God never gives us more than we can handle, that’s true (although sometimes I wonder.) What God does for the prodigal is to welcome them back upon his/her confession of faith (I have done wrong but if I ask God will forgive me and guide me into renewedness of life.) Why? Because when God heard our profession of faith that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God and invited to be Lord and Savior over each life surrendered to Him in the battle for truth, He gave us eternal life.

Eternal life is the covenant of God’s provision and protection over our lives against all our enemies from poverty to pornography to prosperity by our means to powers, principalities and forces above and beneath our worldly existence including Satan himself and all parts in between that do not glorify God. While sin desires to make us believe we are excluded from the promises of Heaven, eternal life declares our inclusion into the Kingdom of Heaven which can be experienced in part here on earth. We have our names written on more than the Book of Life when we walk with the Lord. We have our names written on the deed to the house not built by human hands which is eternal in the heavens. We cannot limit ourselves to believing eternal life is just “living” forever. Eternal life is far more than living- it is living in the fullness of God’s mercy and grace. We already know that when things are going bad and we think we couldn’t handle one more bad thing sure enough one more bad thing comes up. If this is true in the negative in the world, then imagine the one more positive thing which is being added in the Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven. With God there is an abundance that will overwhelm everything the world has to throw at us. All we have to do is believe, keep believing; and even when we stumble we must continue to believe that our Father will not only take us back but He will restore us to our rightful place in the hallowed halls of mercy and grace and abundant living. Why? Because God loves us! He just didn’t love us once in the past. He loves us day by day, hour by hour, microsecond by microsecond- His love never fails!

Therefore, mighty men of God, we are all prodigals and upon our confession and profession of faith, we have received our prodigal’s inheritance. In spite of what we may or may not do with the investment of the Holy Spirit which God has made in us- for His glory or our squandering, if we come back to Him humbly and fearfully and truthfully, we shall inherit the Kingdom of Heaven which is the consequence of the gospel of our salvation, the truth of our deliverance.

Now, let’s talk about our inheritance which God has shared with us through Jesus Christ our Lord…but that will be another day.

Love one another deeply from the heart of Jesus in 2013!

Ephesians 1.13-14

“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession- the the praise of His glory.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

OUR “PRODIGAL” INHERITANCE”:

I begin by identifying our inheritance, which is the gospel of our salvation through Jesus Christ alone, as our prodigal inheritance only because of two faith facts. The first faith fact is “all men, mighty or not, have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God.” When Jesus addressed the crowd of men consisting mostly of “righteous” and upstanding men from the ranks of the Pharisees, Saduccees and business community, He included us because we know God and yet do we know God? He said, “Let those without sin (meaning, those who have not sinned, considered sin in their heart or mind, or spoken against sin even when claiming your own presumed innocence and lack of wrong-doing of any kind) be the first to condemn this woman to brokenness, disfigurement and possible outright death by throwing the stones you now hold behind your back with readiness to prove yourselves holy.” Have you ever just thought about doing something wrong, say something off-color with a debatable meaning and purpose or even spoken against yourself in a demeaning way? Have you said harsh words, passed on inuendos or intimated harm to another person because they inconvenienced you? Yes, you may not have violated six-tenths of the Ten Commandments just like the rich your lawyer/ruler who sought Jesus’ opinion on how to gain eternal life as if it were a contest whose only qualification was that, and is that, “you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and coincidentally, love your neighbor as you have been loved by God.” So, the major effect of sin seems to me to be that we are convinced that God does not love us therefore we do not need to love each other. Or maybe we can “justify” ourselves by saying “We love others but conditionally, so there must be conditions to how God loves us.” Isn’t that what sin leads men to believe, that God is like us? God is not made in our image. We are made in His image which means we are designed to be like God inwardly and outwardly as His mighty men on earth. He even clarified the situation by sending His Only Begotten Son to dwell on earth for a time to set the example by walking the full measure of love which included sacrificing Himself so that we might all have life and have it abundantly. If God sent His Son into the world then it must have been an indisputable reality that we are sinners in spite of our best efforts to the contrary.

The second faith fact is “we shall all see God.” Jesus taught His disciples “to see Him was to see God” in response to them saying “Show us the Father and that will be enough.” It should be enough for all of God’s mighty men to see Jesus and know they are seeing the Father in action with spirit and truth. But, there are many who say they do not see God and that may well be for the fact that the Jesus in us is not as visible as it ought to be. But, I am speaking beyond our witness and testimony or the lack of it as the defining reality of our prodigal nature. Regardless of whether we believe in God or not, whether we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior or not, the day will come when we will return to the Father, stand before the Judgment Seat of God and gaze upon the face of the Lamb who was slain that we might have life. We will return to the gateway that leads to the mansion of God and find our life’s journey has come to the inescapable destination of God’s final decision. We cannot get beyond it without God’s permission which the Son will grant or deny. We cannot avoid it because it is inevitable- no one escapes death, not even Jesus! We cannot deny its existence because ultimate truth is unchangable. But, a part of that unchangable truth is the love of God for those who choose to love Him and love like Him. They must recognize they are not perfect, but working toward perfection. They must confess they are sinners, and may yet sin despite the desire to avoid it. They must profess Jesus Christ as Lord of All and Servant of All and they are His disciples who seek to walk in His way. And His way leads back to God!
