HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

John 17.15

“My prayer is not that You take them out of the world but that You protect them from the evil one.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

As long as we are mighty men of God called to serve the world we will be under attack by the enemy. He will strike in our minds with questions and doubts. He will seek to convince us of physical afflictions so that we may be weak. He will attempt to disrupt relationships so that we feel alone. He will deny our value so we will surrender our charge and just fade to dust. But, take heart because Jesus was confronted by the same enemy and defeated him with faithfulness to the Word of God. It is the same Word that is given to us. It never changes. Its strategy is proven to be effective and efficient. There is no wasted effort in the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is truth for Him and it is truth for us. Not only that but He has prayed over us and our success by believing in our ministry in the world and to it. He has also prayed for our protection. If He is for us then no matter who might stand against us, the enemy shall not prevail. It is that simple, said and done. If you are a mighty man of God, be mighty- of truth, value, spirit and fellowship.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Romans 15.24

“I plan to do so when I go to Spain.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

With today’s urging to pray for the nation and people of Spain, I am reminded of the Apostle Paul’s intention to fulfill the commissioning of Christ to the disciples. Jesus shared with His disciples before His ascension into heaven that they should make disciples of all nations reaching to the ends of the earth. In the days of Paul, one of those “ends of the earth” would have been Spain and Great Britain. As Paul considered himself to be one of the “apostles” because of his post-resurrection experience with Christ on the Damascus Road, he took to heart the same calling as was given to the other apostles- those very same disciples. He had a heart for the full measure of his commitment to serve the risen Christ. As a mighty man of God his desire was to be obedient in his faith as a Christ follower as he was a Pharisee before his conversion.

As mighty men of God we, too, should have a similar obedience. Even when Paul knew that the end of his earthly ministry might be at the throne of Caesar he knew that his blessing came from the throne of God where Christ sat at His right hand. He did not lose faith in sharing the faith. His letter to the “Romans” spoke of his plans to visit Spain and with Christians along the way. He did not share a gospel of empty hope and limitations. He gave them hope of his ministry to be a reality and not a dream. Mighty men of God today must not settle for dreams and good intentions. They must reach out to complete the work they are called to do in the face of life and death. Their end, as Paul’s, exists in the hands of God. We must go where He sends us. We must follow where He leads. We must do what He commissions us. We must say what He declared to be truth. We must live by faith and never lose hope. We must love one another as He loves us. It is about the past or even the present that the mighty men of God live for- it is for the future of the body of Christ to the greater glory of God.

Mighty men- where do you plan to go today?

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Proverbs 20.3

“It is a man’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

God’s mighty men are known when they think before they speak. They consider first the other person and their need to communicate the way they did. All behavior is based on need. The need of God’s mighty men is to listen, consider and serve; not fear the words of others and dictate terms. They consider the response of God in each situation. God’s thoughts and ways are far higher than our own. God’s mighty men seek wisdom in prayer and patience in humility. They consider the door to the future of which grace is the key. The future of God’s mighty men is secure in Christ Jesus therefore they have nothing to fear of man and this world. God’s mighty men respond with kindness and reconciled relationships in mind so that the body is built up to the full measure and stature of Christ. It is not always easy to follow these guidelines but perfect practice empowers perfect application.

May 28, 2012

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Luke 15.7

“I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Our opportunity as God’s mighty men is to find the lost, share the gospel and lead them to the safety of the body of Christ. We are not soul inspectors but soul collectors. The church should be as a storehouse filled to overflowing. We should not build bigger barns without considering the cost. The cost in this instance is the cost paid for our own salvation by the loving and mighty sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. Have all been saved? Yes! Do all the saved actualize their salvation? No! Does all the world know of its salvation? No! So there is much to do when we leave the comfort and blessing of the houses of worship we find ourselves in during the week. Our purpose is to go into all the work proclaiming the gospel of life and make disciples in all nations. It is our Christian duty, opportunity and honor.

It is something that we are able to do more safely because of the brave men and women in our armed forces. Their willingness to sacrifice their lives to promote and protect the freedoms which we enjoy in this country so that others around the world may have them as well is a testimony of gratitude- not only their gratitude to serve but ours for their service. We must not forget to say thank you for that service whenever given the opportunity. The freedom of assembly and the freedom of religion are important to the formation of one’s healthy psyche in this world. Heaven rejoices when the lost are gathered in and so should we mirror that joy when we see our soldiers and know that God has blessed them with an honorable opportunity to serve in ways many of us are not able to do.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Psalm 66.10

“If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and my voice in prayer.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

What makes and keeps a man of God mighty is that he cherishes God in his heart. The focus of his being, his life, his thoughts and his actions rise up from his heart. If God is there in every heart beat then sin has no room to surge throughout the body to infect it with its destructive distraction. It does not mean that sin does not exist, for it surely does, but that in the heart of the mighty man of God it does not rule and has a diminishing influence as God is praised. It is not a matter of “do you have room in your heart for God?” Rather it matters that you ask “how much room do you have for God?” The man who stays focused on the praise of God in works and words is truly a threat to sin in the world. He becomes the fire of faith that keeps the wolves of wickedness at bay in the shadows where they hid. He becomes the angel of mercy proclaiming healing and hope where the harbinger of death wanders announcing his disease and distress. He becomes the true testimony of love that overcomes the false witness of hate and apathy. Whether in our own bodies or in the body of Christ, the Church, this truth must be embraced so that more of God’s people will know that He is not only their God but their Heavenly Father whose Son, Jesus the Christ, has made possible for us all to enjoy the fruit of faith which is Heaven.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Psalm 32.1

“Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Are there days when we question whether you are blessed or not? Do you judge your blessings by the material possessions you have or don’t have? Do you at times allow the physical world become the benchmark of your spiritual worth? When those times arise in your life, remember this verse, commit it to your memory and use it to diffuse the voice of the enemy. As a mighty man of God are your transgressions not forgiven by the grace of God demonstrated through the sacrificial gift of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior? Are you sins not covered by the blood of the Lamb so that all that is seen is Jesus Christ our Master and Messiah? Yes, the voice of the psalmist shepherd-king David, beloved by God, who he himself transgressed the law and sinned against God but found his blessing by faith, speaks to us as a foreshadowing of the glory divine! We are truly blessed because we have been restored to the position of beloved sons of the Most High and Mighty God!

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Revelation 10.1

“Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun and his legs were like fiery pillars.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

What John the Presbyter was allowed to witness in Jesus’ revelation to him concerning the last days had to be awesome, awe-inspiring and awful. But, as I read it the words come alive in the Holy Spirit and I can begin to imagine what he saw and had to feel. But, reading His Word for today I am reminded that God’s mighty men can be some of God’s mighty angels. Angels were messengers of God sent to earth to proclaim a truth in a time of great need. We are fortunate to have the Bible, God’s holy-inspired Word of truth, with us at all times. Its wisdom is beyond measure and its testimony is sure on a daily basis. But, there are those times when a needed revelation is given that speaks to a particular time, place and challenge that expands our vision and understanding of that truth as it applies to our lives. Thank God for those moments and for the ones chosen to deliver them. God’s mighty men should aspire to one of God’s mighty angels on earth as it is in Heaven. We know our treasures are already laid up for us there secure from harm; they can never be lost. We know there is a special abiding place for us there fashioned by the very hands of the Son of God our Savior. We know that we are safeguarded from dying and death, sorrow and fear, hunger and thirst and all ailments and possessions because God will be with us in a holy completeness and we with Him. What more do we need to inspire us on earth and to empower us in Heaven? It certainly isn’t about ambition but about desire that we should live our lives on earth in a mighty way for God. We should so want the truth to live in us that our service to others is timely, purposeful, powerful, transforming and enlightening. It is not us per se but the Lord working in and through us that makes that happen just as it was and is and will be with His mighty angels as in the last days revealed to John. Are we living mighty lives? Are we acting as mighty men of God? Are we ready to be called upon as His mighty angels?

May 23, 2012

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Joshua 8.1

“Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, Joshua. Take the whole army with you and go up and attack Ai. For I have delivered into your hands the king of Ai, his people, his city and his land.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

God promises; God delivers! Before Joshua went to fight the battle, he began to count the cost. If Joshua was anything like us, he probably became a bit overwhelmed at the impossibilities and sensitive to the loss of lives that would greatly trouble the families of Israel. He might have even considered not pressing forward with the command to take the land which was before them. But, God told Joshua that the victory was already his. All Joshua had to do was press forward into battle- defeat was not an option. If we are truly mighty men, then we have the same promise made with Joshua- the victory is already ours if we just press into the battle. No matter what the battle is- addictions, distractions, finances, depression, family, relationships, work or ministering to the neighbor as well as the enemy; the victory has already been secured. How much difference does it make to know that when you press forward into what God is inviting you to do that defeat is not an option, failure is not an option? It should make all the difference in the world. So, when we go out into the world today or when we spend our time with our families, why do we struggle with defeat when we could lift up the victory that is our in Christ Jesus. Make a difference; victory is our only option.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Habakkuk 1.5-6a

“Look at the nations and watch- and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told. I am raising up the Babylonians, that ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Whose side is God on anyway? Because of the sinfulness of the leadership of Israel throughout the Old Testament, the nation and people are left susceptible to attack. Their people are scattered like sheep without a shepherd to be devoured by the wolves of seduction or gathered into flocks until their generation has been fully fleeced and bred into a lesser breed. God even speaks of raising up foreign armies and empowering them in their own right, as if they had the might to win against God, to be the executors of justice and purification of the nation of Israel. And now Hababbuk receives this revelation from God that another army is on its way; the Babylonians whom God has raised up. But, is that the mighty thing which God was doing? No, it was not the raising up of that mighty army which would march against Israel but the bringing down of it. In the peoples’ eyes, the Babylonians were the greatest force on the face of the earth. They feared even the sound of their name and cowered in anticipated annihilation. Yet, God promised that those who arrogance allowed them to be seduced by such talk into believing that nothing could stand against them He would defeat utterly. Why? Because they were His servant doing His bidding and taking credit for it themselves. They denied the existence of the God of Israel and flexed their muscles as if they were mighty indeed. They thought themselves gods but they were putty in the hand of the Almighty God. Their defeat was imminent and Habakkuk was to write it down for the time of its revealing.

What message is there in this for the mighty men of God? Do we not live in such desperate times as these when enemies of the people of God from within and well as outside of the borders of this nation rise up? Yet, is not God’s promise of protection, provision and prosperity? Are we truly trusting in God’s providence and seeing His justice being revealed? Have not enemies of the people of God been defeated time and again? Yes, others have been raised up and in their arrogance they cast a pall of peril over the earth. But what of the people of God? Are they not cast in the light and glory of God? Is not the Spirit of God their shield and strength? Is not their future in eternity already secured where neither moth nor rust nor thief can remove it? Why do we live in fear and unrighteousness? Why don’t we try on the mantel of faith, hope and love putting on the full armor of God so that we can withstand the presumed onslaught of the enemy who fights against us believing there is no God. Is not God on our side? Will His justice not roll like thunder? Will His sword not strike down the wicked and reveal them for the sinners that they are? Take heart mighty men of God and stand firm in your faith. Your faith is a gift from God as surely as the life it bears in you. It is covered with the blood of the Lamb who was raised from the enemy of life- the grave. We may die yet but in Christ we shall surely live! Remain faithful and true to the Word that has been given- Jesus Christ is Lord! Let the enemies call and fall where they may but the Will of God shall not be turned!

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

2 Peter 1.5,6

“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Peter knew that the new Christ followers already possessed all the necessary tools to be successful in their lives and ministry. What they needed was guidance and hope which comes from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He himself was living proof of this very fact or else Jesus would not have chosen him to be a trusted disciple. Peter learned from his time spent with Jesus that there was always one more step to take from where he was. Jesus wasn’t, and neither was Peter, try to make a laundry list of “all the things you need to do to be an effective disciple.” In fact, Jesus made sure that Peter understood that it was love alone that not only made one qualified to be a disciple but would ensure that one would be an effective disciple. Peter said as much as he brings his reason to a climax saying “add to your brotherly kindness, love (agape- God’s love). Mighty men of God read again HIS WORD for today and see how you can go one step further or deeper and be more refined in your Christian walk, nature and character. Whether you read the list forward or backward, it can read the same. None of us is perfect on our own but in Christ we are being perfected as He urges us to seek the broadening of our scope of ministry to one another.
