HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Psalm 90.1-2

“Lord, You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

It is not a LEAP of faith or knowledge to say that the psalmist was actually declaring, “…from everlasting to everlasting You ARE God, You are OUR God, You are MY God.” God is our refuge in times of trouble, our green pastures in times of distress, our living water in times of desolation, our eternal life in times of desperation and our God in all times of our lives. There isn’t a time in our lives, or in the lives of all humanity when we were not with God. God is pre-imminent in all things. As the psalmist considered the blessings in his life, he knew that without that proper appreciation of God so much would have been missed. He would have taken so many things for granted. Things would just be because they are. But, when we consider the heavens; the work of His hands; the sun, moon and stars; the world and all that is in it that we know and the things we are just now discovering, we cannot help but be amazed and awestruck. I have to say that even for those who do not believe in God, they have to be in awe of the wonders of life in all its beauty and intricacies which have occurred by “happenstance.” One day, because the mighty men of God will continue to bear witness to God and His greatest expression of love in Jesus Christ, they will come to know (even if they never accept) that happenstance was in the beginning and in the end- God. Take that leap of faith, mighty men of God, and jump into the world with praises to God for all the wonders and blessings you have received so that the world will come to know of the greatness and goodness of God.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

1 Corinthians 3.10

“By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Interesting words for a tentmaker, don’t you think. I have laid a foundation as if I am an expert builder. Obviously during his missionary travels, Paul spent time with a stone mason. It was an opportunity granted to him by the grace of God. There are times when we are directed to speak to someone but we do not know why. We think that perhaps God has a word for them that He wants us to speak when in fact it is the other way around. During that visit, Paul listened as the scriptures came alive for him concerning the stone which the builders rejected; the cornerstone and the capstone. He listened as the stone mason described the solid rock upon which a builder would practice his craft and how he turned sand into mortar to be the glue that held the stones together. Paul felt the impact of the words of Christ who declared “You will bring this house down (that House of Prayer) so that not one stone will be left standing but I will raise it up again.” Brave words for a fisherman who, by the grace of God, would lay the foundation of the Church upon which the disciples would build opportunities for communities of faith, hope and love.

You see, mighty men of God, it doesn’t matter what your walk of life is be it a tentmaker or a fisherman, a teacher or an administrator, a lawyer or a doctor, a businessman or a car salesman. By the grace of God you are a part of the craft of building strong foundations of life through the witness of Jesus Christ while you are building upon the foundation that was laid for you. You must remember your task is not only to be an expert builder of foundations in the image of Christ but to be builders and master builders of the house of prayer which stand upon that foundation. May it all be for the glory of God who by His grace has blessed you with the opportunity to build a future on earth as it is being built for you in Heaven.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Romans 11.11

“Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

There are times we do not realize the value of something, especially someone, until it is lost. How important it is to take the time to make sure that those we love and respect know that we do. Taking anything for granted is merely the invitation for it to fade from our sight as if it never existed. It only hurts ourselves when we believe something we have always had will always be there. It may will be there but in the gathering clutter of the rest of our lives we may lose our remembrance of it. Watch a child playing with a toy. He puts it down to take up another toy and, as if on cue, that toy which was put aside is picked up by another child. All of a sudden a battle ensues about whose toy it is. We are a curious people. The behavior remains the same regardless of our age.

Paul takes up this theme as he calls the descendents of Abraham to the awareness of their place in the kingdom. Because of their penchant for faithlessness and a casualness toward their relationship with God, the Gentiles are invited into the Kingdom as full heirs. He states that it happens this way so as to spark a sense of re-ownership to their call as children of God. He would love for those mighty men of God to take up the standard of spiritual leadership. He would rejoice with those who lifted high again the banner of “Chosen” before all the world not as the only but as the first. The mission and purpose of the nation of Israel was to be God’s witnesses so that all would come and believe. Isn’t that our mission and purpose as well? If the mighty men of God today, those who are “gentiles,” lay aside their essential ministry and take their salvation for granted, shall their blessing also diminish? Will it perhaps not be offered to others? Do not take your call for granted. Honor it by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ to all the world. Maintain the passion of faith, hope and love. Refresh your spirit by building relationships and growing stronger in your resolve to be His witnesses.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

John 6. 47,48

“I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life. I am the bread of life.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

I want to give credit for this inspiration to Jensen Franklin. Men are supposed to be the bread winners of the family. It isn’t really about how much money you make as the bread winner but how you are a good steward of the money you bring home. It is really about the spiritual leadership a man brings home to his family and his stewardship of that treasure which leads to eternal life. Do the members of families of God’s mighty men find themselves filled with the bread of life? Will they turn to them in times of need and ask them for help not with a financial handout but a spiritual hand up?

It got me to think then that God’s mighty men are supposed to be the bread “winners” in the family. For the true bread is not something that can be earned and identified with a paycheck. Rather, the true bread is a result of the surrendering of one’s life to the Master Bread Maker in the battle for truth. They are seen as the victors in life overcoming the enemy’s attack through sin. They know they did not accomplish this feat on their own but by believing that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God and serving Him first and only. They identify themselves with the winning team of faith, hope and love. They collaborate to serve the purpose of spreading the good news, feeding others with the bread of Heaven and giving them the opportunity to taste the new wine of the new covenant with brings newness to life that they enemy cannot steal away. God’s mighty men are to be the breadwinners of their families but they are able to do that best by first becoming bread “winners” in the Kingdom of God.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Jeremiah 6.8

“Take warning, O Jerusalem, or I [the Lord] will turn away from you and make your land desolate so no one can live in it.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

We might think that what got the nation of Israel into the land of Canaan was the fact that it was a prosperous region flowing with milk and honey and rich in produce beyond anything they had ever seen. If we thought that we would have been correct but woefully in second place. We must remember that faith in God is what brought Israel out of bondage and into the Promised Land but not without a forty year sojourn to sharpen that faith. Have we ever had those times in our lives when we worked so hard for something and finally achieved it? We probably were very happy and shared that good news with everyone. Some might have even gone so far, however, as to feel entitled now to all they had achieved. Entitlement is a dangerous and sinful disease which confuses the mind, the heart and the spirit of a person. That confusion begins to send out a message that everyone else should be doing the work for them because now they have achieved a status of power and prestige. I do not think that this happened, necessarily, in the case of ancient Israel. However, we do know that they squandered their inheritance of the Promised Land and became more like the younger son in the story Jesus told about the Prodigal.

As Jeremiah listened to the words of God concerning Israel’s fate, Jerusalem as the focal point, he knew that Israel was no longer a nation that honored God. They had surrendered their future into the hands of the enemy because they had lost that tempered faith their forefathers had centuries previous. I would hate to think they had given up on God because He no longer did mighty works which they may have thought they were entitled to as His “chosen people.” But, the reality was that they were becoming a people of spiritual desolation. In that desolation they traded the prosperity of God for the depravity of the world. They were becoming a fallen nation and an abomination to God. Jeremiah’s preaching mission was to try and turn the people back to God or all would be lost. The land once flowing with milk and honey would soon flow with blood and desperation.

Even today, the word has not changed. Those who have received the promise of prosperity must continue to live faithfully. They must trust in God to provide for them because He will. They cannot put on the cloak of entitlement lest they hid themselves from God and fall perilously into the pit of despair and death. It is vital that the mighty men of God proclaim the call to life and the pursuit of faith. They must act in love at all cost so that the promise which God made and the covenant they have entered into can bear fruit in all generations and the kingdom of prosperity can flourish on earth as it does in Heaven.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Matthew 9. 36

“When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

What do we see when we are engaged with a number of people, or even just one person? Do we see problems? Hindrances? Annoyances? Waste of time? Or do we see people who are struggling day to day to make the best of their lives whom God has prepared us to be shepherds to? When Jesus urged the disciples to see the crowds as a harvest, the people themselves were not ripe Christians ready to be gathered in as a farmer would bring in the produce at the end of the season. Jesus was not talking about the last days or the end times. Jesus was talking about the very present moment. Here were people ready to receive the good news. Here were people hungry for the truth. With just a little effort they would accept the kingdom invitation and be saved. These were not people they would have to convince and coax into the kingdom. These were disciple candidates ready and eager to learn how to be sons and daughters of God. At times the disciples were put off by the crowds. They would ask Jesus to send them away since He was the reason they were there. The disciples wanted Jesus all to themselves. The truth is that Jesus is wanting to be shared. He is the bread of fellowship to be broken and offered to the hungry. He is righteous grape to be squeezed into new wine and poured out to those thirsting for righteousness. He is not to be contained. He doesn’t need us to maintain Him. He desires for us to seize the opportunity to share Him with the world that is ready to receive the truth about God. He is shaping His mighty men to be their shepherds because they are ready to be led into the kingdom. He is inviting His mighty men to give to the world what the world cannot give to anyone or anything. Jesus saw opportunity to honor God and serve others. What do we see?

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Acts 13.32

“We tell you the good news. What God promised our fathers, He has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

What a wonderful thing God continues to do for us! This wonderful thing is to provide reminders of the joy of our salvation. As mighty men of God, we proclaim this good news which is our salvation in Jesus Christ. The joy of our salvation is the completion of the covenant God made with Abraham and his descendents that they would inherit the land, it would prosper and they would bring glory to God’s name with their faithfulness. What Abraham and his descendents thought they were getting was the land as far as the eye could see. That possession did prosper and prosper them. God’s name was known by their faithfulness to God. It was not until Jesus was raised from the dead that the revelation of the complete promise was known. The descendents of Abraham by faith not only received the earth as their inheritance but the Kingdom of God as well because they are joint heirs with Christ. The kingdoms of earth have changed hands so many times but the Kingdom of Heaven endures forever. It can never be taken from us. It is ours forever and the fullness of the kingdom of God is ours as well. We are truly prosperous when we consider ourselves through the eyes of faith instead of the eyes of man.

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Psalm 104.24

“How many are Your works, O Lord! In wisdom You made them all; the earth is full of Your creations.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

When David created this psalm, this spiritual song, he only knew of God and His creative power. He did not have the knowledge of Christ as did Paul and the early church leaders who understood that it was through and by Christ that God created all that we know and see. But, David knew this much that God created all things in wisdom. Wisdom means have the good sense to use the right knowledge for the best purpose. If David knew that God created all things in wisdom, with wisdom and by wisdom, He would have no problem affirming then that Christ was that wisdom God used to create all things. Christ not only was wise but Christ was wisdom personified and amplified. He was living wisdom!

As God’s mighty men, and those who are One in Christ as well as with Christ, we then are called to be wise as well. When we access that wisdom, we, too, become creative beyond our imagination. Haven’t you done something and then reflect back saying “How did I do that?” (I mean something good, of course.) You didn’t do that but wisdom did in and through you. What a wonder can be performed when we act with wisdom and by faith. Jesus encouraged His disciples saying, “Greater things than this will you be able to do.” Because of God’s mighty men, the earth remains full of His creations. What will you create today because you have committed yourself to act and think wisely? What good will you co-author with God?

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Hebrews 1.2

“But, in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

As Paul spoke to the future of the Church, those who had believed first in the Old Covenant and now were being convinced of the New, he drew the line that led straight to Heaven for all believers. Who better to believe in than the One who created all the things their ancestors believed in and called upon. It was by the Word of God, spoken into the darkness, that the world and all that would dwell upon it was created. Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ of God, was and is and will always be that Word. It was that Word of God which was spoken by this Christ that now gives His people their only hope. Jesus was the next generation as the heir of all creation which had been created through Him and thus by Him. Those people to whom Paul spoke understand the value of craftsmanship. They would not create something for themselves that was less than valuable. Sure, that might have sold it for a bargain but they understood their reputation in the marketplace must be impeccable. They were master craftsmen just as Christ was the Master craftsman of creation. He would not create something of less value knowing it would, in the end, become His. That is why, in the miracle of Cana, Jesus waited until the last to turn water into wine. He knew of the tradition of giving a little of the best in order to fool the palets of the people so that the party could continue with cheaper wine. The people wouldn’t know the difference (except the for designated driver.) Cheaper wine was in abundance and so a big party could be given and the host would be known by the size of the party. But, Jesus did not hold back. He gave the people the very best knowing there would be plenty for the rest. After tasting the best, the people would ask for more. So, now Paul urged the mighty men of the Church to know that God had given them His very best so that they could have rest from their labors against sin and enjoy the celebration of their salvation.

Mighty men of God, you are the host of the spiritual parties in this generation. Do not withhold the greatest blessing from the people. Give them the best so they can have rest. Do not try to fool them by only giving them a taste and then substitute a faith of lesser quality. Show them the master craftsmanship of faith, hope and love and let them ask for more of that taste of the new wine of the covenant. It doesn’t get any better than Christ!

HIS WORD FOR TODAY:

Leave no soul unturned in 2012!

Hebrews 1.1

“In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in many ways.”

REFLECTING IN HIS WORD:

Prophecy is not dead. We are living in the days where many of the Old Covenant prophecies are being experienced as realities and not just anticipated proclamations. But, there is still the need and occasion for prophetic utterances; it remains a gift of the Holy Spirit. We ought not to be confused about prophecy, however. The world looks at prophecy as being akin to fortune telling. There is no sense of chance in prophecy. It is not a random selection. Prophecy is “truth-telling.” It looks at the events of the day and then alerts those who would listen of the result and consequences of those events. How many times, as parents, have we given a prophetic word to our children? Based on our passed experiences, we can say with surety what can come next…unless. It is the “unless” portion that truly makes the difference. Fortune telling can be bought and sold. Its advice is limited as to the course to be taken to avoid the obstacles in the road ahead. But, prophecy is God’s truth being spoken. It is the means of lifting the fog so that the road ahead is clearly seen as are the obstacles and challenges. It cannot be a service bought or sold because it is a Word from God. That warning word of God was spoken to our forebears many times and in many ways. But, too many times the course of action was decided upon without consulting God by the Holy Spirit. When we took matters into our own hands instead of walking by faith and obedience how did that work for us? Those who refuse to learn from the lessons of the past who consequences are happening in our current situation will probably repeat the disaster effects in the days ahead.

God’s mighty men are to be smarter than that. We know that breaking the law and the covenant will have negative consequences on our lives and the lives of those who are given to us to care for and others who are touched by our lives. As children, we learned the power of “yes” and “no.” We learned to trust them both but we still did not always obey because there was a voice of independence which urged us “go it alone.” We cannot walk alone. We must walk with God if our desire is the Kingdom. This was the purpose of God’s law and its provisions. It was prophetic in and of itself. Those who obey my commands shall walk in favor. Those they bless are blessed. Those who seek to take the blessing away will find their blessing removed as well. God’s mighty men are urged to remain obedient to the Law of the Lord. It is perfect but it is not a substitute for salvation nor for building the necessary relationship with God that moves the believer into perfection. Where there is the Law of rules and regulations, there must also be the “law” of grace. We will consider that prophetic “law” tomorrow.
